Job Summary:

The Applications Solution Architect – Customer Onboarding translates CHS business needs, product priorities and enterprise architecture direction into practical, end-to-end solution designs that enable consistent, scalable and connected customer onboarding across CHS business lines, including retail and wholesale channels.

This role focuses on the application capabilities, workflows, integrations and customer experiences required to onboard, activate and support customers from initial engagement through operational handoff. The architect defines solution-level architecture for customer and account data, onboarding workflows, integrations, APIs, event streaming, security, controls and operational processes.

Working between Enterprise Architecture and Product/Delivery teams, the Applications Solution Architect partners with business stakeholders, product owners, technical leads, engineers, data, security, infrastructure and operations teams. The role helps create connected onboarding experiences while enabling appropriate business-line flexibility and reducing unnecessary manual handoffs, duplicate capabilities, fragmented workflows and inconsistent customer information.

The role requires experience designing and integrating cloud-based solutions using AWS, Confluent Cloud, PostgreSQL, SAP Master Data Governance (MDG), Snowflake and API-led integration patterns.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture and Design

  • Translate customer onboarding business capabilities, process needs, product requirements and strategic priorities into end-to-end application and technology solution architectures.

  • Design scalable onboarding solutions that support CHS retail and wholesale business models, channels and customer segments.

  • Define customer and user journeys, solution context, architecture diagrams, component interactions, data flows, integration patterns, event flows and technology recommendations.

  • Establish and document solution-level design decisions, assumptions, dependencies, constraints, risks and trade-offs.

  • Ensure solution designs align with enterprise architecture principles, target-state architecture, approved technology standards and governance guardrails.

  • Design secure, scalable and supportable cloud-based solution architectures using AWS services and enterprise application platforms.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify, modernize, reuse, retire or rationalize applications and technical capabilities supporting customer onboarding and go-to-market processes.

  • Balance enterprise consistency and reuse with legitimate business-line, channel and customer-segment requirements.

Customer Onboarding Architecture

  • Architect capabilities that support the customer onboarding lifecycle, including initial engagement, customer and account setup, validation, activation, service enablement and operational handoff.

  • Partner with business, product and delivery stakeholders to understand onboarding processes, business rules, channel needs, customer experiences and operational constraints.

  • Define solution designs that connect customer-facing onboarding experiences with supporting back-office processes and systems.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual handoffs, duplicate data entry, disconnected workflows and inconsistent customer or account information.

  • Establish reusable solution and integration patterns that support the scalable introduction of new products, services, channels and customer experiences.

  • Ensure solution designs address customer, account, organizational and relationship data required for retail and wholesale business interactions.

  • Enable appropriate visibility into onboarding status, workflow handoffs, approvals, exceptions and operational follow-up activities.

Integration, Event and Data Architecture

  • Design and govern integrations, APIs, event flows, middleware usage and data-exchange patterns required for customer onboarding capabilities.

  • Define API-led integration patterns, including API security, authentication and authorization, versioning, lifecycle management, error handling, monitoring and supportability.

  • Design event-driven integration patterns using Confluent Cloud and Apache Kafka capabilities to enable reliable, scalable and timely exchange of customer onboarding events and status changes.

  • Define integration approaches across customer-facing applications, back-office systems, SAP MDG, PostgreSQL databases, AWS services, Snowflake and other connected enterprise platforms.

  • Define approaches for consistent, governed customer and account data exchange across applications, workflows and business processes.

  • Partner with SAP MDG stakeholders to ensure customer and business-partner master-data processes, governance requirements and integration dependencies are represented in solution designs.

  • Design appropriate PostgreSQL data-access, persistence and performance patterns for application capabilities supporting onboarding workflows.

  • Define Snowflake integration and data-sharing patterns that enable governed access to customer onboarding data for operational reporting, analytics and approved downstream business needs.

  • Identify data dependencies, ownership considerations, data-quality risks and integration constraints that could affect customer onboarding outcomes.

  • Partner with data, security, platform and infrastructure teams to ensure appropriate data management, interoperability, access controls and technical compliance.

  • Promote reusable API, event-streaming, workflow, data and application patterns that improve delivery speed and reduce duplicate capabilities.

Requirements, Controls and Quality Attributes

  • Define and validate non-functional requirements, including security, availability, reliability, performance, scalability, maintainability, observability, resilience and recoverability.

  • Collaborate with business and product stakeholders to clarify significant onboarding requirements and translate them into actionable solution-design requirements.

  • Define solution requirements for workflow routing, approval processes, exception handling, auditability and appropriate controls across onboarding activities.

  • Ensure architecture decisions account for operational readiness, supportability, access controls, compliance considerations, data stewardship and lifecycle management.

  • Establish architecture approaches for logging, monitoring, alerting and operational support across APIs, event streams, AWS services, databases and other customer-onboarding capabilities.

  • Partner with operational and support teams to enable an effective transition from onboarding implementation to sustainable customer support and ongoing service.

Delivery Collaboration and Governance

  • Partner with Product Owners, Portfolio teams and business stakeholders to understand priorities, desired customer outcomes and delivery constraints.

  • Work with Technical Leads to transition approved solution designs into detailed implementation plans, technical tasks and delivery backlogs.

  • Provide solution architecture guidance throughout delivery; resolve design issues and evaluate proposed changes against intended business and customer outcomes.

  • Participate in architecture-review processes and communicate solution decisions, exceptions, risks and recommendations to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Ensure solution decisions are documented and traceable through architecture artifacts, including customer journeys, solution diagrams, data flows, API and event designs, integration specifications and architecture decision records.

  • Support feedback loops from delivery teams, business operations and customer-facing teams to continuously improve solution patterns, standards and designs.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted architecture advisor to product, business and technology stakeholders supporting customer onboarding across CHS.

  • Facilitate alignment when solution decisions span retail and wholesale channels, applications, AWS cloud services, APIs, event-streaming platforms, data platforms, SAP master-data capabilities, security and operational domains.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts, architecture trade-offs, design options and risks in clear, business-relevant language.

  • Build productive working relationships across Enterprise Architecture, product teams, business-line technology teams and shared technology services.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience in application development, systems analysis, technical leadership or solution architecture.

  • Demonstrated experience designing end-to-end application solutions across multiple systems, teams and technology domains.

  • Experience designing solutions that support customer, account, order, service, commercial or onboarding-related business processes.

  • Experience designing secure, scalable cloud-based application architectures using AWS services.

  • Experience with Confluent Cloud and Apache Kafka-based event-streaming patterns, including event design, integration, reliability and operational considerations.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL, including application data modeling, data-access patterns, performance considerations and operational supportability.
