The role offers both deep technical ownership of a high-impact platform rebuild and broader influence as a local Databricks practice lead.

Our client is hiring a Databricks Solutions Architect to lead the design and implementation of a modern data and AI platform for a major enterprise engagement. This is a technical leadership role—the “commander-in-chief” for a full platform rebuild. You will translate complex requirements into scalable Databricks architectures, drive pre-sales and proposal work, and build high-performing technical teams.

You will own the current-state assessment and future-state design covering Lakehouse, Unity Catalog, data ingestion, transformation, governance, analytics, and AI/ML workloads. The role also expands beyond the initial engagement to serve as the local Databricks practice lead for the Texas/Oklahoma business unit, supporting pre-sales and other client pursuits.

What You’ll Do

• Lead architecture and solution design for a Databricks Lakehouse platform (Unity Catalog, Lakeflow, Lakebase, Medallion architecture)
• Conduct current-state assessments and deliver future-state architecture recommendations, technical specifications, and implementation roadmaps
• Design enterprise-grade solutions for data ingestion, transformation, governance, analytics, and AI/ML using Databricks SQL, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and related capabilities
• Drive technical discovery, author technical sections of proposals/SOWs, and deliver presentations and proof-of-concept demonstrations to executive and technical audiences
• Lead solution delivery from kickoff through production, including mentoring data engineers, analysts, and junior architects
• Establish technical standards and best practices for Databricks implementations
• Support customer enablement and knowledge transfer for long-term success
• Work with distributed teams (nearshore and offshore)

What You Bring

• Deep hands-on Databricks experience, including Unity Catalog, asset bundles, and Hive Metastore migration
• 10+ years architecting and implementing enterprise data solutions with modern data platforms
• Strong technical foundation in data engineering, SQL, Apache Spark, Python, and distributed computing
• Experience building data models, ETL/ELT pipelines, and governance frameworks
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and mentor others
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and present to executives
• Consulting background—high-touch, client-facing, and relationship-driven (not a pure order-taker)
• Hands-on and strategic: willing to roll up your sleeves, not just architect on paper
• Experience working with distributed or offshore team models

Nice to Have

• Greenfield Databricks or lakehouse build experience
• Databricks certification (Associate or Professional Data Engineer)
• Pre-sales or customer-facing technical experience in a consulting or systems integrator environment
• Experience with AI/ML workloads, Mosaic AI, or modern AI platforms on Databricks
• Cloud platform depth (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and data services
