This role combines architectural leadership, cloud engineering, software development expertise, and systems integration to ensure technology investments support business objectives.

What You’ll LeadSolution Architecture and Technical Design

• Develop end-to-end solution architectures aligned with business requirements, technical standards, and organisational objectives.
• Gather and evaluate stakeholder requirements, translating them into detailed technical specifications and implementation plans.
• Design system components using architectural principles, UML modelling, microservices, and service-oriented architecture.
• Produce architecture diagrams and technical documentation to support development, implementation, and maintenance.

Cloud Computing and Systems Integration

• Design and oversee solutions deployed across cloud environments, particularly AWS and Microsoft Azure.
• Lead the integration of APIs, RESTful services, SOAP web services, and data exchange formats such as XML and JSON.
• Assess system scalability, availability, performance, and resilience to ensure solutions meet operational requirements.
• Evaluate integration approaches and technologies to improve interoperability between enterprise applications.

Software Engineering and DevOps

• Promote effective software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including design reviews, testing, release management, and deployment.
• Support CI/CD processes using tools such as Jenkins, Git, Maven, Docker, Kubernetes, and Ansible.
• Evaluate programming languages, frameworks, and development technologies to determine their suitability for specific requirements.
• Work with development teams using technologies such as Java, C#, Python, ASP.NET Core, Spring, and Ruby on Rails.

Data Architecture and Technology Evaluation

• Assess database technologies, including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and MongoDB.
• Review data structures, integration requirements, and database design considerations.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and system capability.
• Support technical decisions involving relational databases, NoSQL platforms, and enterprise data services.

Security, Governance and Technical Leadership

• Incorporate security controls, secure integration patterns, and relevant compliance requirements into architectural designs.
• Review system designs to identify technical risks, performance constraints, and potential vulnerabilities.
• Guide teams on architectural standards, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
• Mentor developers and provide technical direction across front-end, back-end, infrastructure, and integration activities.
• Communicate architectural decisions and technical trade-offs clearly to technical teams and business stakeholders.

The Technical Expertise You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a technology professional with strong architectural judgement and the ability to connect business requirements with practical engineering solutions.

Essential skills and experience:

• Demonstrable experience in solutions architecture within complex enterprise or large-scale technology environments.
• Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, particularly AWS and Microsoft Azure.
• Experience designing distributed systems, microservices, and scalable application architectures.
• Understanding of REST APIs, SOAP services, web services security, and enterprise system integration.
• Knowledge of software development methodologies, including Agile and Scrum.
• Experience with source control and CI/CD practices using tools such as Git, Jenkins, or Maven.
• Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data modelling, and system performance optimisation.
• Strong knowledge of architectural documentation, design patterns, and technical governance.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Additional technical experience that would be advantageous:

• Front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or Ember.js.
• Web technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, AJAX, Bootstrap, Kendo UI, or Ext JS.
• Enterprise technologies such as WebSphere, WCF, or PL/SQL.
• Automation scripting using Bash, Unix shell, or PowerShell.
• Infrastructure automation and configuration management using Ansible.
• Security assessment tools such as Burp Suite.
