Solutions Architect

The Role

Customer-facing | AWS | Full-time | Remote

We're looking for a Solutions Architect who is equal parts technical (working knowledge of AWS services) and also comfortable working with customers. This is a heavily customer-facing role. You'll own the customer relationship on active projects, run kickoffs, keep projects on track, and be the person customers call when something needs attention, so our delivery engineers can stay focused on the build.

This is not a primary hands-on delivery role. You need enough AWS depth to talk architecture credibly with a customer's IT team, understand a scope, and know when something is off, but you typically won't be the primary doing the implementation work. However, if you have those skills and wish to remain at least partially hands-on, that is certainly a benefit.

What You'll Do

Customer ownership (the biggest part of the job)

• Act as the primary point of contact for customers during active engagements
• Handle customer communication, expectation setting, and the occasional difficult conversation, so engineers aren't pulled off delivery
• Translate between business stakeholders and technical teams in both directions

Project kickoff and oversight

• Run project kickoffs: confirm scope, timelines, access, and responsibilities
• Track progress across multiple concurrent projects and keep work moving
• Provide project management on larger engagements; keep a light touch on smaller ones
• Make sure every project is documented and diagrammed as it's delivered, so anyone can pick it up later

Bridge between leadership and delivery

• Work with the delivery lead to match incoming projects to the right engineer based on skill set and customer fit
• Help delivery engineers stay focused and prioritized, and raise blockers early
• Keep leadership informed on project health and customer sentiment

Assessments and scoping

• Support AWS assessments (security posture, cost, resiliency, migration readiness): gather information, analyze environments, and present findings
• Help scope new work so SOWs reflect what the customer actually needs, including sizing and design choices that affect delivery
• Contribute to solution designs alongside senior engineers

What You Bring

Required

• 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role (solutions architect, technical project manager, technical account manager, consulting engineer, or similar)
• Project management experience: you've run multiple projects at once and kept them on time and in scope
• Solid working knowledge of AWS: compute, storage, networking, identity, security services, and cost management
• Comfort explaining technical tradeoffs to both IT staff and business owners
• Calm, direct communication, including the ability to deliver bad news (findings, delays, scope changes) without drama
• Strong written communication: status updates, meeting summaries, assessment findings

Nice to have

• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Associate or Professional)
• Background in on-premises infrastructure (Windows Server, Active Directory, file servers, SANs, VMware) and how it maps to AWS
• Experience with disaster recovery, backup, or migration projects
• Experience at an AWS partner, MSP, or consulting firm
• Familiarity with PSA tools such as ConnectWise

What Success Looks Like

• Customers have one clear contact and know what's happening on their project
• Delivery engineers spend their time delivering, not managing customer escalations
• Projects kick off cleanly, with scope and access confirmed up front
• Every completed project leaves behind documentation and diagrams the customer can use
• Assessments and scopes are accurate enough that delivery doesn't hit surprises
