What they need

FAMSUN is a global leader in feed, food processing, and intelligent manufacturing solutions, with projects delivered in more than 100 countries. For 50 years, we've pioneered feed machinery technologies that drive higher raw material utilization and greater energy efficiency — strengthening global food security while protecting the planet.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR:

We're looking for a Process Engineer who will be responsible for developing and optimizing technical solutions for ethanol production in Brazil using various feedstocks and supporting systems, including the preparation of plant layouts, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and equipment lists. The role also involves preparing project budgets and execution plans, as well as conducting technical risk assessments and defining project implementation strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and optimize technical solutions for ethanol production in Brazil using various feedstocks and supporting systems, including the preparation of plant layouts, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and equipment lists.
  2. Prepare project budgets and execution plans; conduct technical risk assessments and define project implementation strategies.
  3. Work closely with Account and Business Managers on technical and commercial proposals; lead clarifications with customers, identify requirements, and continuously refine both the technical solution and the commercial offer.
  4. Discuss process and engineering details fluently in Portuguese; prepare and review PFDs, P&IDs, and plant/equipment layout drawings.
  5. Perform mass and energy balances; experience with process simulation software is preferred.
  6. Prepare equipment lists and RFQ/tender documents; experience in CAPEX estimation is a plus.
  7. Apply knowledge of basic and detailed engineering methodologies and EPC contracting models.
  8. Use CAD and Excel for routine engineering work; knowledge of Visio and MS Project is a plus.
  9. Navigate the ANP regulatory framework applicable to ethanol plants, Brazil's environmental licensing process, and NR occupational safety standards.
  10. Establish local supplier network — engineering contractors and equipment vendors — is a plus, as is experience in cross-functional and cross-cultural collaboration and access to project, site-visit, or government relations networks.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Fermentation Engineering, Brewing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the Brazilian ethanol industry, with a major engineering contractor or large ethanol producer; experience in both detailed engineering design and commercial/technical proposal development is required.
  • Proven leadership in at least 3 sugarcane and/or corn ethanol projects, with hands-on involvement across at least 2–3 project phases — basic engineering, detailed engineering, equipment procurement, or construction/execution.
  • Strong expertise in sugarcane and corn ethanol processes, including corn oil recovery and associated auxiliary systems; capable of performing mass and energy balances and selecting/designing key process equipment.
  • Familiar with key process units — liquefaction/saccharification, fermentation, distillation, and dehydration — with actual plant production or operation experience required.
  • Familiar with wastewater treatment and cogeneration/CHP solutions commonly applied in Brazil.
  • Knowledge of Brazilian standards related to environmental protection, fire protection, and safety engineering.

LANGUAGES REQUIRED:

  • Proficient in Portuguese
  • Advanced in English, able to communicate with clients without barriers
  • Spanish is a Plus
