Sourcing Engineer

About the role

Tamco Switchgear (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sourcing Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This role is based in Shah Alam, Selangor and offers an exciting opportunity to drive procurement excellence and supply chain optimisation within our manufacturing operations. As a Sourcing Engineer, you will play a crucial role in identifying, evaluating, and managing suppliers whilst ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery of materials and components. Your strategic approach to sourcing will directly impact our production efficiency and overall business success.

Key responsibilities

• Support the sourcing activities of mechanical components through market research, supplier identification and RFQ activities to meet the requirements of ongoing production and new product development projects.
• Assist in supplier selection and evaluation by comparing cost, quality, capacity, technology, delivery capability and supply risks.
• Support price and commercial negotiations with suppliers including quotation comparison, payment terms, lead time, MOQ, and other requirements
• Work closely with cross-functional teams including Purchasing, R&D, Quality Control (QC) and Production to support the sourcing and development of mechanical components for new products.
• Review technical drawings & specifications with R&D and relevant technical teams and highlight potential sourcing, cost, quality, or manufacturing concerns.
• Support cost analysis and cost-down activities for existing and new mechanical components by conducting quotation comparisons & cost breakdown analysis
• Support supplier qualification and first-sample approval activities by coordinating with suppliers, QC, and R&D to ensure samples meet drawing, specification, and quality requirements before production release.
• Assist in identifying potential second-source suppliers to reduce single-source and capacity risks.
• Maintain and update SAP records including supplier pricing, validity, and other relevant procurement data to ensure accurate and up-to-date.
• Develop knowledge of mechanical components, materials, manufacturing processes, and industry trends to improve sourcing capability and identify potential new suppliers, technologies, and cost-saving opportunities.
• Perform project-specific tasks/duties assigned by the reporting supervisor.
• Perform any other work related/required by the superior on the operation of division and TAMCO Switchgear.
• Follow and Comply to any procedures and measures as required by the Safety & Health Policy and Requirements of the Company.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic or related field.

• Candidates with 2-3 years of relevant working experience are preferred. Fresh graduates with a strong willingness to learn are also welcome to apply.

• Experience leading RFQ processes, supplier negotiations, and supplier qualification for mechanical components.

• Experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Experience in the electrical, switchgear, or power distribution industry is highly advantageous.

• Experience sourcing mechanical components, additional experience sourcing electrical components is an advantage.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, and to conduct cost-breakdown analysis.

• Proficient in SAP B1 and Microsoft Office.

• Attention to detail and strong organisational capabilities.
