Job Description

The Sourcing Lead owns the multi-year sourcing strategy and execution pipeline across Indirect, R&D, and Manufacturing & Logistics categories. The role aligns sourcing activities with Takeda’s enterprise priorities, category strategies, and patient-centric mission while delivering value across cost, demand, innovation, risk, and ESG.

The role leads and develops a team of Sourcing Associates, Sourcing Managers, and Senior Sourcing Managers; acts as the key interface between Category Managers, business stakeholders, sites, suppliers, and Operational Procurement; and drives consistent, compliant, and continuously improving sourcing execution.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Define and own multi-year global sourcing strategies aligned with category strategies, GPO frameworks, and business priorities
  • Deliver and monitor the sourcing pipeline, savings, RFx cycle times, stakeholder satisfaction, and quality and performance KPIs
  • Drive total cost of ownership and value levers across cost, demand, innovation, risk, and ESG
  • Lead and develop a sourcing team of approximately 8–12 employees, providing coaching, feedback, performance management, and capability development
  • Translate category and business needs into effective sourcing strategies and constructively challenge demand where appropriate
  • Lead complex sourcing initiatives and supplier negotiations, escalating strategic or high-risk matters appropriately
  • Implement standardized sourcing templates, playbooks, workflows, governance, and performance management practices
  • Identify opportunities to use digital tools, automation, generative AI, and agentic AI to improve sourcing efficiency and experience
  • Partner with Category Managers to identify and mitigate supply chain risks, supporting business continuity and patient supply security
  • Align with Central Finance on end-to-end execution, service delivery, handoffs, and process boundaries between Category Management, Sourcing, and Operational Procurement
  • Drive continuous improvement, industry best-practice adoption, and a growth mindset across the team and sourcing organization

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; an MBA is an advantage
  • 10+ years of procurement experience, including at least 4 years in a senior leadership or people management role
  • Proven experience leading sourcing teams and delivering cost and value targets in a complex global, matrix, or shared-services environment
  • Experience across Indirect, R&D, Manufacturing, or Logistics categories; pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or FMCG experience is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Source-to-Contract, strategic sourcing, contract lifecycle management, supplier management, risk management, and procurement transformation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex negotiations and develop sourcing strategies at different organizational levels
  • Experience using SAP Ariba or equivalent eSourcing and P2P platforms; Wave pipeline management experience preferred
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing, consulting, communication, and presentation skills
  • Collaborative and diplomatic leadership style, with the ability to operate effectively with limited day-to-day direction and ambiguity
  • Strong attention to detail, prioritization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience using generative or agentic AI to improve procurement processes
  • Fluent written and spoken English
