What they need
EXPERIENCED SOUS CHEF
Praa Sands | Full-time year-round | Competitive Wage | No late evenings!
We’re looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at Stones Reef. Someone who loves food, thrives in a busy kitchen and, most importantly, wants to become something more.
We’re not looking for someone who simply wants another job in a kitchen. We’re looking for someone who wants to build a career, take on more responsibility and develop into a key part of the future of Stones Reef.
Our kitchen is at the heart of what we do. From buzzing summer services to quieter days, we’re all about great food, good ingredients and doing things properly, while still having fun along the way. We want someone who can bring their own experience, ideas and personality to the kitchen, while understanding what Stones Reef is all about.
What do we want from you?
- An experienced Sous Chef or strong Sous Chef with 3+ years’ experience
- A genuine passion for food, cooking and delivering consistently high standards
- Someone who thrives in a busy service and enjoys the buzz of a full kitchen
- Equally confident working independently when things are quieter and you may be the only chef in the kitchen
- Someone who can confidently manage their own prep, service and kitchen priorities without needing constant direction
- Leadership skills and the confidence to support, motivate and develop the wider kitchen team
- Someone who takes pride in their work, their kitchen and the food leaving the pass
- Organised, reliable and able to keep calm and focused when the pressure is on
- A creative mind with the confidence to bring ideas to the table and help develop our menus and food offering
- Someone who understands that great food comes from a great team and enjoys helping colleagues learn, improve and progress
- A positive, hands-on attitude and willingness to lead by example
- Someone who is ready to take on more responsibility and ownership
- Most importantly, someone with ambition; who wants to keep learning, growing and becoming something more in their hospitality career
What will you be responsible for?
Working alongside the Head Chef, you’ll play a key role in keeping our kitchen running smoothly and helping to drive standards forward.
You’ll help to:
- Lead the kitchen team during busy services
- Confidently run the kitchen independently during quieter periods, taking ownership of service from prep through to close
- Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation and hygiene; whether you're working as part of a team or flying solo
- Help with menu development, specials and new ideas
- Train, mentor and develop junior members of the kitchen team
- Help create a positive kitchen culture where people enjoy coming to work and want to improve
- Manage sections effectively and ensure the kitchen is prepared for service
- Assist with ordering, stock control, prep planning and reducing waste
- Help maintain kitchen systems, cleanliness and food safety standards
- Take responsibility for the kitchen when the Head Chef is away
- Spot opportunities to improve the way we work and have the confidence to make things happen
What We Offer:
- Competitive pay, reflecting your experience and the responsibility you’ll take on
- No late evenings! Our kitchen closes early compared with many hospitality businesses
- A genuine year-round career opportunity
- Clear opportunities to take on more responsibility and progress within the business
- The chance to work closely with the Head Chef and play a real part in developing the kitchen
- Freedom to bring your own ideas, creativity and flare
- A supportive team who want to see each other succeed
- A good dose of flexibility and work-life balance! We want our team to enjoy life outside of work too, so where we can, we’ll work with you around concerts, social events and plans that matter to you, with the same flexibility and consideration in return. And when it comes to team time, we’re alright at that too; Staff parties, takeaway nights and whatever else the team fancies!
- Employee Discount
- Free use of our watersports activity centre, because life outside the kitchen matters too!
- All standard employee benefits including holiday pay and pension
- A stunning beachside workplace with sweeping sea views
- Most importantly, the opportunity to become something more — developing your skills, your leadership and your career as Stones Reef continues to grow
Ready for your next step?
If you’re an experienced chef who is hungry for more than just another kitchen job, we’d love to hear from you.
