Sous Chef

About the role

Hotel Ponsonby is one of Ponsonby's premier pubs. Its busy, high-energy kitchen serves modern, seasonal pub food. This role carries real responsibility. Two nights a week you will be the senior chef in charge. You'll run service from start to finish, lead the team, keep every plate up to standard and make the calls when it gets busy. You must be confident leading the kitchen on your own on those nights.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the kitchen and the team through service two nights a week
• Cook high-quality seasonal dishes consistently in a high-volume kitchen
• Help with prep and keep the kitchen organised and running smoothly
• Look after purchasing
• Keep strong food safety standards across the kitchen

About you

• Experience as a Sous Chef or Chef de Partie ready to step up
• High-volume kitchen experience
• A passion for modern cuisine
• Strong food safety knowledge
• A cool head under pressure and ability to lead a team through a busy service
• Your own knives
• Active right to work in New Zealand: New Zealand citizenship or New Zealand work visa
• Must be in New Zealand now
