About VCA

VCA – The Verb-Centred Academy of Languages provides engaging language lessons for children and adults, both in person and online.

We currently work with a few primary schools in London and are now expanding our after-school language clubs to Manchester. We are looking for enthusiastic local tutors who would like to join us as we establish clubs in the area.

Our Verb-Centred Method™ introduces verbs and sentence-building from the beginning, helping learners communicate confidently instead of simply memorising lists of vocabulary. Our after-school clubs give pupils an enjoyable and practical introduction to languages within a familiar school environment.

The role

We are looking for friendly, reliable and enthusiastic self-employed Spanish tutors to deliver weekly after-school clubs at primary schools across Manchester. You do not need to teach both languages.

Please note: tutors may initially be allocated just one weekly club, providing only 1 teaching hour per week. We are specifically looking for freelancers who are happy to start with this small commitment.

There is the possibility of additional clubs and more hours as VCA grows in Manchester, but these cannot be guaranteed. Please apply only if one teaching hour per week would be suitable for you initially, taking into account travel and preparation time.

We will aim to match tutors with clubs in locations that suit their availability and travel preferences.

VCA will provide the lesson plans and materials, which must be delivered in accordance with our Verb-Centred Method™. There may also be opportunities to teach private lessons in the future.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the provided, age-appropriate Spanish lessons in accordance with VCA’s Verb-Centred Method™
• Create a positive and enjoyable learning environment
• Encourage pupils to speak the target language and build confidence
• Familiarise yourself with the lesson plans and prepare the provided materials for each session
• Manage a group of children safely and effectively
• Communicate reliably with VCA regarding attendance and progress
• Follow each school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies

The ideal candidate will:

• Be fluent in Spanish
• Have experience teaching or working with children
• Be confident managing a group independently
• Be enthusiastic, patient, organised and dependable
• Be happy to work just 1 teaching hour per week initially
• Be able to travel to agreed school locations within Manchester
• Be available on one or more weekday afternoons during after-school hours, normally between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm
• Have a valid Enhanced DBS certificate or be willing to obtain one
• Have the right to work in the UK
• Be registered as self-employed or willing to register

A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. We are particularly interested in tutors who make language learning lively, practical and enjoyable while following structured lesson plans.
