About the role

The Spatial Data Analyst is responsible for building, processing, analyzing, and validating geospatial datasets to support the development of the AI Disaster Mitigation Platform, particularly for weather monitoring and earthquake-induced ground deformation mapping. This role focuses on transforming satellite observations and geospatial datasets into reliable disaster information through remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and automated data processing workflows. The analyst will work with Himawari-8/9 or relevant weather satellite data for near real-time weather visualization and Sentinel-1 SAR data for automated ground deformation analysis related to earthquakes.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain automated pipelines that ingest and process Himawari-8/9 data in near real time (calibration, band composites, cloud and rainfall-related products, tiling-ready outputs)
• Evaluate and implement methods to handle Himawari's coarse pixel size, such as resampling/interpolation, band sharpening, and downscaling, and document the trade-offs with evidence
• Develop automated Sentinel-1 SAR / InSAR workflows to map earthquake-induced ground deformation, including image pair selection, interferogram processing, unwrapping, geocoding, and LOS displacement products
• Design event-triggered automation (e.g., earthquake catalogue feeds to satellite data search and processing) using Python and workflow orchestration tools
• Use Sentinel-2, ALOS, and other satellite data to support disaster mapping (flood, landslide, and typhoon-related analysis) as required
• Prepare and manage spatial datasets (COG, GeoTIFF, NetCDF, PostGIS) for dashboard visualization
• Collaborate with the Fullstack Website Developer to integrate spatial outputs (tiles, APIs, metadata) into the web platform
• Produce maps, visualizations, technical documentation, methodology, and analysis reports

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geodetic Engineering, Geography, Geomatics, Remote Sensing, Geophysics, Meteorology, Environmental Science, or a related field
• Experienced in remote sensing or spatial data analysis (final year student or fresh graduates with relevant thesis or project experience are welcome to apply)
• Hands-on experience with weather / geostationary satellite data, preferably Himawari-8/9 (AHI) or similar and its data formats, calibration, band combinations, and cloud/rain interpretation
• Strong Python skills for geospatial automation (e.g., GDAL/rasterio, xarray, NumPy, geopandas, satpy)
• Experience processing Sentinel data (Sentinel-1 and/or Sentinel-2) using SNAP, Google Earth Engine, or Python, solid understanding of SAR fundamentals
• Understanding of disaster and hazard analysis, especially earthquakes, floods, landslides, and typhoons, and how satellite data support them
• Familiarity with geospatial data management (PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF, STAC)
• Good technical writing and communication in English; ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team
