JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR

Job Goal: To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning, class environment in which special education students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma.
• A Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), or two (2) years of college, or an Associates’ Degree.
• Generalist Paraeducator Certification.

Reports To: Building Administrator – Superintendent – Board, coincide with chain of command

Performance Responsibilities/Essential Functions[1]:

• Assist in implementation of students’ educational programs, under supervision of the teacher.
• Assist in transporting students on community mobility experiences.
• Perform clerical duties including typing and filing.
• Prepares for classroom activities, under the supervision of the teacher.
• Work with individual students and/or small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assist the teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines.
• Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
• Assist the teacher in developing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual student’s needs, interests and abilities.
• Maintain the high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
• Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned.
• Supervise students as they arrive and/or leave on school bus.
• Collect and record instructional data.
• Assist teacher by maintaining consistency in behavioral programs as established by the teacher.
• Supervise recess, lunchroom, or hall duty as assigned by the building level principal.
• Perform other job related duties as assigned.
