Special Education Paraeducator

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Paraeducator is responsible for providing support services for the instruction, supervision, and independence of students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the grade level and Individual Education Plan (IEP) the student or students served.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Monitor student activities such as drills, practice, and test-taking after lessons and instructions have been given by the teacher
• Monitor student behavior and assist in maintaining an orderly classroom atmosphere for the purpose of providing an optimum learning environment, including students with disabilities
• Perform clerical and supportive tasks for teachers such as correcting student papers, recording grades, preparing supplemental materials as assigned
• Supervise students in a variety of settings before, during, or after school
• Perform positive behavior support and management Work with students individually and /or in small groups on specific learning tasks and objectives Interact with special needs students in a warm and understanding manner
• Provide personal care or assistance to students with the necessary self-help requirements in areas such as diapering, toileting, catheterization, etc., consistent with procedures prescribed by the assigned program
• Know and follow the health, safety, and emergency procedures of the district
• Work as a positive team member
• Work cooperatively and communicate successfully with staff, students, and parents Demonstrate a commitment to the education of all children and youth
• Observe strict confidentiality regarding student and personnel information
• Adapt to a variety of working situations and learn new skills
• Promote and practice professional growth and development
• Demonstrate professionalism through conduct, punctuality, and minimal absences
• Other duties as assigned

Education and Licensure:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge and Skills:

• Ability to use sound judgment in the absence of a teacher or administrator.
• Ability and willingness to accept the responsibility of the position.
• Ability to use a computer to take required online training.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to use good judgment.
• Ability to promote a spirit of cooperation with others.
• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
• Assist with other duties as may be assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• 178 contracted days per year
• Salary and benefits are to be determined by the board

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with federal and state law, board policy, and the preceding job description.

Pay: $25,855.00 - $29,585.00 per year
