Salary: £30–£42 per hour PAYE, depending on experience, plus 12.07% holiday pay.

About the Role

Flexzo Teach is recruiting a compassionate and experienced Specialist SEND Mentor / Tutor to support a young person with additional educational and emotional needs in Bromley, London.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about providing personalised, one-to-one support to young people who have been out of mainstream education for an extended period.

The role involves supporting a secondary-aged learner with autism, a Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile and high levels of anxiety. The successful candidate will focus initially on building trust, developing a positive relationship and gradually encouraging engagement through enjoyable, interest-led activities.

The ideal candidate will be calm, patient, flexible and approachable, with a good sense of humour and the ability to build rapport naturally without placing unnecessary pressure on the learner.

Sessions will initially take place within the learner's home, with a parent or carer present, before gradually introducing community-based activities when appropriate.

The position offers up to 12 hours per week, with flexibility to split the hours between two suitable candidates or appoint one individual to deliver the full package.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide personalised, one-to-one mentoring and educational support tailored to the learner's individual needs.
• Build trust and positive relationships through a calm, patient and low-pressure approach.
• Encourage engagement through shared interests, including gaming, creative activities and practical experiences.
• Support emotional wellbeing, confidence, communication and independence.
• Gradually introduce learning opportunities and community-based activities at a pace appropriate for the learner.
• Work collaboratively with the learner's family and wider support team.

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting young people with autism, PDA profiles, anxiety or additional educational needs.
• Experience working with young people who have experienced difficulties accessing mainstream education.
• A calm, patient and adaptable personality, with the ability to develop trust without placing pressure on the learner.
• Confidence using creative, interest-led approaches to encourage engagement.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently within a home-based setting.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people with complex needs.

Desirable:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
• An interest in gaming, particularly Roblox, and the ability to use gaming to build positive relationships.
• A driving licence and access to a car for potential future community-based sessions.
