Specialist - Ophthalmology

• Ensure that ophthalmological care rendered meets DoH standards
• Monitor within established guidelines the quality of care provided and participate in review/study of difficult and special cases
• Monitor the eye care rendered on a daily basis to ensure DoH standards are met
• Keep informed of current developments in the field of ophthalmology
• Be available for consultation after working hours
• Coordinate with the HOD in planning programs integrating curative and preventive aspects of total patient care
• Participate in implementation of approved curative/preventive programs as they relate to ophthalmology
• Take an active role in teaching activities provided for nursing and ancillary staff
• Participate in committees as requested by the Medical Director
• Strictly observe organization’s medical regulations and policies, especially those related to infection control, patient safety, patient assessment and patient care
• Perform other miscellaneous duties as requested by the HOD
• Participate in quality related activities/programs as requested by the Medical Director
• Orient new staff when requested
• Communicate regularly with HOD and other members of the service

Desired Candidate Profile

• At least 3 - 5 years post qualification experience at Specialist level (independent of country)
• At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator
• Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification/education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority
• Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by relevant UAE healthcare authority
• Active and valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP)
• Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration (e.g. Membership from Royal College / Arab Board Certification / MS / DM / MPhil or equivalent recognised by UAE healthcare authority)
