What they need

Little Bird Speech LLC is a small, clinician-owned practice providing Therapeutic Consultation Speech services to individuals receiving Virginia DD Waiver services. We value flexibility, collaboration, and high-quality, person-centered support.

This position is a 1099 independent contractor role and is best suited for an SLP who enjoys working independently while still having access to support and collaboration when needed. Contractors have flexibility in building a caseload that fits their schedule, with opportunities available for both part-time and full-time work.

Position Overview- This is not a traditional direct therapy position.

The SLP will provide Therapeutic Consultation Speech services under Virginia DD Waiver programs. Services focus primarily on caregiver coaching, staff training, communication support planning, AAC implementation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and monitoring communication outcomes across environments.

Rather than providing ongoing direct treatment sessions, the SLP serves as a consultant, helping caregivers and support teams build the knowledge and skills needed to support communication throughout daily routines and community activities.

Services are delivered through a combination of telehealth and in-person visits, creating a flexible hybrid work schedule.

  • Provide Therapeutic Consultation Speech services under Virginia DD Waiver programs
  • Conduct caregiver, DSP, and support staff training
  • Develop individualized communication recommendations and support plans
  • Support AAC assessment, implementation, and communication partner training
  • Create communication supports, visual supports, and caregiver training materials as needed
  • Collaborate with families, support coordinators, behavior analysts, day support providers, residential providers, and other team members
  • Monitor communication outcomes and adjust recommendations based on client needs
  • Complete required documentation in a timely manner
  • Participate in both virtual and in-person service delivery

QualificationsRequired

  • Current Virginia Speech-Language Pathology License
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)
  • Ability to pass required background checks
  • Reliable transportation for community-based visits
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule

Preferred

  • Experience with AAC and complex communication needs
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Experience providing caregiver training, consultation, or coaching
  • Knowledge of neurodiversity-affirming and person-centered practices

Ideal Candidate

This position is ideal for an SLP who:

  • Enjoys caregiver coaching and adult learning
  • Prefers consultation and collaboration over traditional direct therapy
  • Is comfortable working independently
  • Enjoys AAC and functional communication supports
  • Values teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Appreciates flexibility and autonomy
  • Wants to be part of a small, supportive practice

What We Offer

  • Flexible part-time or full-time caseload opportunities
  • Hybrid schedule with a mix of telehealth and in-person services
  • Competitive contractor compensation
  • Administrative support and mentorship
  • Meaningful work focused on improving communication and quality of life
