Paediatric Speech Pathologist
Predominantly Clayton | Full-time (Part-time considered)
ABOUT WONDER WORDS
Wonder Words Speech Pathology is a values-led paediatric practice with clinics in Clayton and Malvern East.
Since opening in 2021, we’ve built a team of speech pathologists, Allied Health Assistants and client care professionals who genuinely enjoy working together. We support children and families in a way that is practical, collaborative and centred around what matters to them.
We care deeply about doing good clinical work but we care just as much about the people doing it. We want our team members to feel supported, trusted and connected, while having the space to develop their own interests and contribute their ideas.
Our values shape how we work:
We respect and connect. We’re in it together. We find the fun. We hustle.
They aren’t just words on the wall. They influence how we support families, work as a team and continue improving Wonder Words.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a paediatric Speech Pathologist to join our team, working predominantly from our Clayton clinic.
Depending on your interests and the needs of the role, your week may also include an off-site day working in schools, kinders or homes, or a day at our Malvern East clinic.
The position is open to clinicians at all levels of experience, although previous paediatric experience would be highly regarded. We’d be particularly excited to hear from clinicians who feel confident or would like to continue developing their skills in:
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
- Fluency and stuttering
You’ll be supported by an experienced clinical team, Allied Health Assistants and a dedicated client care team. We aim to reduce unnecessary administrative pressure so our clinicians can focus their time and energy on their clients, families and clinical development.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT WORKING AT WONDER WORDS?
Your Friday afternoons are protected
We don’t book clients on Friday afternoons. This time is built into the working week for professional development, case discussions, supervision, collaboration, team connection and the other work that helps you feel prepared and supported.
Team connection happens during work hours
We create regular opportunities to step away from the day-to-day work and connect as people. That might mean going out for lunch, taking a walk together, playing a board game, joining a book club discussion or trying something completely different suggested by the team.
There are also regular team events and quarterly professional development days, but connection isn’t limited to the occasional big event, it’s part of how we work together.
Everyone can help shape what we do
We’re always looking for ways to improve our services, systems and the experience we provide to families and team members.
We actively seek feedback from the team and want people to feel comfortable sharing ideas, questioning how things are done and suggesting a better way forward.
You don’t need to be in a leadership position to contribute. Whether you’re a speech pathologist, an AHA or part of our client care team, everyone has a valuable perspective. If you’re interested in contributing to a project, developing a resource or helping shape a new service, we want to make space for that.
We’re willing to evolve
Wonder Words continues to grow and develop in response to what our clients, families and clinicians need.
Alongside individual therapy, our services have expanded to include Allied Health Assistant support, group programs, autism assessment and orofacial myology. We’re progressive in our thinking, open to new ideas and willing to change when there is a better way to do something.
We don’t expect every idea to be perfect. We value curiosity, thoughtful feedback and people who care about making things better.
