Position Overview:

The SPM Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating new and existing machinery products using AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D. The role ensures that designs are accurate, cost-effective, and manufacturable, while providing end-to-end design support across manufacturing, assembly, installation, and customer queries. This position plays a key role in delivering reliable, high-quality engineering solutions that strengthen the organization's reputation in the pulp and paper industry.

Qualifications:

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• 4 8 years of relevant experience in machine or product design
• Hands-on experience in preparing manufacturing-ready drawings and documentation
• Exposure to SPM or paper manufacturing machinery will be an added advantage

Key Responsibilities:

Product Design and Development

• Design, develop, and evaluate new and existing products using AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D
• Ensure designs are accurate, error-free, and aligned with product requirements
• Review design specifications and develop cost-effective solutions following DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles
• Assess manufacturing feasibility before finalizing designs

Documentation and Drawings

• Prepare and maintain detailed drawings, including GA (General Arrangement) and foundation drawings
• Create and update BOMs, part lists, and bought-out material details
• Carry out costing analysis for designs and components
• Provide fabrication and manufacturing drawings to the shop floor

Manufacturing, Assembly, and Site Support

• Resolve design-related issues arising during manufacturing and assembly
• Support installation and commissioning activities
• Troubleshoot product performance issues and recommend corrective actions

Quality and Technical Support

• Perform quality checks on drawings and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Provide technical support for customer and sales queries

Coordination and Document Control

• Coordinate with the Team Lead and other departments, including production, procurement, quality, and sales
• Provide regular project status updates and support drawing approvals
• Maintain proper PDM (Product Data Management) and document control systems

Continuous Learning

• Build knowledge of advanced CAD tools, structural analysis, manufacturing processes, product testing, and product applications

Skills Required:

• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D and AutoCAD for accurate product design and engineering drawings
• Good understanding of design tools, techniques, engineering calculations, and design standards
• Knowledge of engineering materials, material selection, manufacturing processes, and strength of materials
• Understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure accuracy in component design
• Strong focus on design accuracy, quality checks, and error-free documentation
• Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office tools for reporting and presentations
• Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and support or guide team members when required

Special Requirements:

• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D and AutoCAD for product design and engineering drawings
• Candidates with experience in SPM or paper manufacturing will be preferred
• Good knowledge of engineering design principles, DFM/DFA, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
• Understanding of engineering materials, material selection, strength of materials, and manufacturing processes
