Spray Painter

The Company

Our client is a specialized manufacturer of mobile and fixed plant screening and crushing equipment used predominately in the mining and construction industry. The organization has specialized manufacturing facilities in Singapore, China and Perth with branches in every State in Australia.

Due to a high demand of their specialized equipment, our client is currently experiencing a very busy period at their Henderson Headquarters where they require a Spray Painter to apply base coat and 2 Pac Finnish coat.

• Location, Working Days & Hours
• Location: Henderson
• Working Days: Monday to Friday
• Working Hours: 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM (1/2 Hour Lunch)

Work Assignment Duration – Possible Temp to Perm

The role will initially be classed as a temporary work assignment for 8 weeks (Possible extension) where over that period the supervisor will be able to assess the successful candidates work performance, attendance & time keeping and if to their satisfaction a permanent role will be offered.

The Role

The spray painting required does not need to be a commercial finish where it needs to be a “Workshop Finnish” as the paint application is for steel protection and not looks. Our client is currently manufacturing a large volume of conveyors that range from 15 meters to 45 meters long and which are used in mining and quarrying.  The conveyor frames are fabricated by our clients inhouse fabrication team which are then handed over to the Spray Painter.  The paint used on the conveyors is a Primer and 2 Pac based paint with only 2 colours used.

The process for spray painting is as follows;

• Using overhead cranes or forklift, move frames into painting into area (Not spray booth)
• Position Frames on stands using overhead cranes or forklift
• Give the frames a quick visual inspection & a quick clean with thinners to remove all dust or containments
• Prepare primer paint ensuring that it is the correct consistency for use in a spray gun
• Apply primer to steel frames by using an air / pneumatic spray gun applying in an even manner
• Prepare 2 Pac paint by ensuring correct ratios of Base Paint & Hardener as well as using any thinners if consistency is too thick for a spray gun
• Apply 1 to 2 coats of 2 Pac ensuring consistent application, avoiding over spray or sag / run
• Once final coat is dry conduct a quick inspection to ensure the job is 100%

The Candidate

We are seeking a candidate that has at least 6 months of industrial spray painting using a pneumatic spray gun for 2 Pac application.  As mentioned, the finish is a “Workshop Finnish” where paint is applied to protect conveyor frames from environmental and mine site conditions.

As a minimum we are looking for a candidate that is confident in the following spray painting tasks and techniques;

• Using Over Head Cranes
• Position large steel frames on stands using overhead cranes or forklift
• Preparing steel for paint which may require a quick wipe down with degreaser or Acetone type products
• Paint Mixing & Preparation for Primer & 2 Pac
• Using Paint thinners to get right consistency for spray gun
• Applying paint using a spray gun applying evenly avoiding overspray or sag
• Applying paint in a productive manner & in allocated time frames
• Minium Ticket Requirements, Attributes & Skills
• White Card
• Possess good English skills – Verbal & Written
• Is able to & desires to work 10 hour days / 50 hour week
• Has a reliable vehicle & current drivers license to be able to start work in Henderson at 6:00 AM (unfortunately no public transport at that time)

• High Risk Forklift Ticket
• Experience in moving ugly freight / difficult loads
• High Risk Basic Dogging

Remuneration

Depending on your Experience the pay rate will be between;

• $38.00 to $45.00 Per Hour (Flat)
• +15% to +25% on base rate for weekend work
• + Super on all hours
• Paid Weekly
