What they need

Overview

The Sprinter Van Driver is responsible for the safe, accurate, and on-time pickup and delivery of customer freight throughout the GTA. This is a hands-on role that combines driving, loading and unloading, and customer interaction. The ideal candidate has a clean driving record, knows the GTA well, and takes pride in providing professional, dependable service.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a company-provided Sprinter van throughout the GTA and surrounding areas.
  • Complete daily multi-stop pickup and delivery routes on schedule, including same-day, scheduled, and rush deliveries.
  • Load, secure, and unload freight by hand or with a hand truck — packages may range from small parcels to skids up to approximately 50 lbs (occasionally heavier with assistance).
  • Verify shipment counts, condition, paperwork, and bills of lading (BOL) at each pickup and delivery; obtain proof of delivery (POD) signatures.
  • Use a handheld scanner, mobile dispatch app, or onboard tablet to update shipment status in real time.
  • Communicate professionally with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers; report delays, damages, or service issues immediately.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with Ontario Highway Traffic Act (HTA) requirements; document defects on a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
  • Maintain accurate driver logs and hours-of-service records as required.
  • Keep the assigned vehicle clean, fuelled, and in good working order; report any maintenance needs promptly.
  • Adhere to all federal, provincial, and municipal traffic laws, company safety policies, and customer site requirements (PPE, dock procedures, etc.).
  • Assist with warehouse duties (loading, sorting, light pick-and-pack) between routes when required.

Qualifications

  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence in good standing
  • Minimum 1–2 years of verifiable commercial or courier driving experience, preferably in the GTA.
  • Clean Driver's Abstract (3-year) — must be provided at the time of interview or hire.
  • Clean CVOR (Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration) abstract if previously employed under one.
  • Strong working knowledge of GTA roadways, including the 400-series highways (401, 400, 404, 427, QEW, DVP, Gardiner) and major arterials.
  • Ability to use GPS navigation, smartphones, and electronic delivery/scanning apps.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and carry packages up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout a shift; comfortable with frequent entering and exiting of the vehicle.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Professional appearance and customer-service-oriented attitude.

Preferred Qualifications (Assets)

  • Previous experience with a 3PL, courier, or last-mile delivery company.
  • Forklift, walkie, or pallet jack certification.
  • Familiarity with appointment-based deliveries to retail DCs

Working Conditions

  • Shifts typically Monday to Friday
  • Average 8–10 hours per shift
  • Year-round driving, including in winter weather conditions typical to Southern Ontario.
  • Combination of warehouse, dock, and on-road work; frequent loading and unloading at customer sites.
