(Sr.) Backup & Storage Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backup & Storage Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and optimize our global data backup, storage, and virtualization architectures. In this critical role, you will be the guardian of our enterprise data security, ensuring that mission-critical systems and massive datasets (e.g., production inspection photos, databases, VMs) across global sites meet strict RPO/RTO requirements. You will manage the underlying VMware infrastructure, optimize storage arrays, and play a key role in defending our environment against ransomware threats to ensure seamless business continuity.

Key Responsibilities

• Virtualization Infrastructure Management: Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot VMware vSphere environments (vCenter, ESXi hosts). Manage VM provisioning, cluster resource optimization (HA/DRS), snapshot lifecycles, and ensure seamless integration with backup workflows.
• Backup Architecture & Operations: Manage and optimize the global Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) environment, overseeing large-scale deployments with over 1,000 instances and ensuring application-consistent backups for critical VMs.
• Anti-Ransomware Architecture: Design and maintain immutable storage repositories. Leverage Linux OS and XFS file systems to build and manage Linux Hardened Repositories (LHR) to defend against ransomware attacks.
• Storage Hardware Management: Administer and configure enterprise-grade SAN/NAS storage arrays (including but not limited to Dell PowerVault ME5 and NetApp FAS series), managing LUN mapping, volume provisioning, and performance monitoring.
• Hybrid Cloud Integration: Evaluate and execute cloud storage tiering strategies. Manage the data lifecycle for archiving on-premise data to public clouds (e.g., Azure Blob / Amazon S3) to optimize long-term storage costs.
• Disaster Recovery (DR): Plan, schedule, and execute Disaster Recovery drills for VM workloads and critical applications to validate data integrity and recoverability.
• Capacity Planning & Reporting: Monitor global compute and storage consumption trends to provide early warnings for capacity limits. Assist in annual budget planning for infrastructure expansion and generate regular compliance reports.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field.
• Experience: 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience managing medium-to-large enterprise IT infrastructure, virtualization platforms, backup systems, or storage equipment.
• Core Technical Skills (Virtualization & Systems):
• Proven, deep hands-on experience deploying and managing VMware vSphere infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Linux administration (Ubuntu/RHEL) and command-line operations.
• Experience managing physical servers (e.g., Dell PowerEdge) and storage arrays (SAN/NAS).
• Core Technical Skills (Backup): Deep expertise in Veeam Backup & Replication architecture design and operations. Practical experience with Veeam Cloud integrations.
• Language & Communication: Intermediate or above proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). Ability to communicate technical concepts fluently with global IT teams and international vendors.

Preferred Skills (Plus)

• VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification.
• Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) certification.
• NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) certification.
• Proficiency in scripting (PowerCLI, PowerShell, Python, or Bash) to automate VM provisioning, daily backup checks, and reporting.
• Previous experience working in the manufacturing industry or operating multi-site global data centers.
