Position Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Senior BI & Data Engineer to take ownership of our business intelligence, reporting and data engineering requirements. The ideal candidate should be strong in SQL, Power BI, data modeling and ETL/ELT, with the ability to work independently with business teams and application developers. This is an execution-focused role with ownership of the complete BI lifecyclefrom understanding business requirements and extracting data to building data models, dashboards, KPIs and reliable reporting pipelines. The person will work closely with the DBA, application development and business teams to ensure that data is accurate, performant, secure and useful for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

BI & Analytics

• Own development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards, reports and semantic models.
• Translate business requirements into meaningful KPIs, reports and analytical solutions.
• Design reusable and scalable Power BI data models.
• Develop dashboards for management and business functions.
• Improve dashboard performance, usability and data reliability.
• Manage Power BI workspaces, datasets, refreshes and access where required.
• Establish consistent definitions for important business KPIs and metrics.

Data Engineering

• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines from databases, applications, APIs and other data sources.
• Build and maintain data warehouses, data marts and analytical datasets.
• Perform data transformation, cleansing and validation.
• Design appropriate dimensional models for reporting and analytics.
• Automate recurring data integration and reporting processes.
• Monitor data pipelines and resolve failures or data-quality issues.

SQL & Database

• Write advanced and optimized SQL queries for reporting and data processing.
• Work with SQL Server and other relational databases.
• Identify inefficient queries and collaborate with the DBA on performance improvements.
• Understand indexing, joins, aggregations and execution plans sufficiently to build efficient reporting solutions.
• Ensure BI workloads do not unnecessarily impact production databases.

Data Quality & Governance

• Implement basic data-quality checks and validation processes.
• Identify discrepancies between source systems and reports.
• Maintain documentation for data sources, transformations, KPIs and reporting logic.
• Follow appropriate security and access-control practices.
• Support the development of a reliable single source of truth for business reporting.

Business & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work directly with business users to understand reporting and analytics requirements.
• Challenge unclear requirements and help define the right metrics and reporting approach.
• Convert business problems into practical data solutions.
• Present dashboards and insights to business stakeholders.
• Provide ongoing support and training to Power BI users where required.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to automate manual Excel-based or operational reporting.
• Modernize legacy reports and reporting processes.
• Evaluate new BI and data technologies based on business requirements.
• Support future adoption of Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake or similar platforms.
• Support the organization's future AI/GenAI data requirements by ensuring data is structured, accessible and trustworthy.

Primary Skills (Must-have):

• 5 - 8 years of experience in BI, Data Engineering or a similar role.
• Strong hands-on SQL skills.
• Strong hands-on Power BI experience.
• Excellent understanding of Power Query and DAX.
• Strong understanding of data modelling and dimensional modelling.
• Practical experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience working with SQL Server or another enterprise relational database.
• Experience building data warehouses, data marts or analytical datasets.
• Strong understanding of data quality and validation.
• Ability to independently work with business stakeholders.
