SR. Db2 DBA (z/OS)

Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Db2 for z/OS Database Administrator with specialized expertise in Precisely Connect CDC (formerly SQData) to support, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise data replication solutions. This role is focused on managing the end-to-end replication of data from mainframe Db2 environments to cloud and distributed data platforms, while providing core Db2 z/OS administration support.

Role Overview

• Focus: 80% Precisely Connect CDC replication management; 20% traditional Db2 for z/OS DBA responsibilities
• Schedule: 40 hours maximum per week (comp time applied for any approved overage)
• On-Call: Requires on-call support and occasional weekend coverage
• Interview Process: Single-round interview with management and technical leads
• Timeline: Immediate opening

Key Responsibilities

• Support, configure, and maintain Precisely Connect CDC replication pipelines streaming data from Db2 for z/OS to downstream cloud and distributed target systems.
• Monitor CDC infrastructure components including change capture, publishers, transport mechanisms, transaction logs, and apply processing.
• Manage CDC configurations when Db2 tables undergo addition, removal, reorganization, or schema/DDL modifications.
• Diagnose and resolve replication latency, missing or failed transactions, connectivity failures, and data synchronization issues.
• Partner with mainframe DBA, platform engineering, and application teams to ensure secure, reliable data delivery.
• Differentiate and isolate root causes across source Db2 databases, capture engines, transport networks, and target apply engines.

Technical Qualifications & Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience administering IBM Db2 for z/OS in enterprise production environments.
• Extensive experience with Precisely Connect CDC (SQData) software and architecture.
• Deep understanding of CDC components: change capture, publishers, transaction storage, replication distribution, and target apply processing.
• Expertise in Db2 for z/OS internal logging, commit and rollback behavior, and transaction processing concepts.
• Proven ability to handle restart and recovery procedures for CDC components during unexpected failures or system outages.
• Experience managing replication streams through database schema updates, table reorganizations, and structural DDL changes.
• Strong analytical skills to investigate and restore data consistency between mainframe sources and target environments.
