What they need

Job Posting End Date: November 01

Our Fortune 500 company is driving a digital transformation and looking for forward-thinking innovators to disrupt how our industry thinks about and uses technology. As one of the world's leading employee benefits providers, we help millions of people gain affordable access to benefits that help them protect their families, their finances and their futures.

Are you an asker of questions, a solver of problems, and a challenger of the status quo? Our mission is to provide a differentiated customer experience and exceed the expectations people have of technology at any company — not just insurers.

We are seeking individuals to join our team of talented IT professionals who share never-ending passion and an unwavering focus on our customer experience. Team members comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced, and delivery-focused environment thrive in our environment where we value an entrepreneurial spirit and those who challenge the status-quo.

Unum is changing, and we’re excited about what’s next. Join us.

General Summary:

We’re looking for a Senior Delivery Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery of AI, machine learning, GenAI, and agentic AI initiatives while directly leading and developing a small to mid-sized team. You’ll oversee delivery across multiple cross-functional teams, bringing together data science, engineering, product, platform, security, architecture, and business partners to create predictable, consistent delivery and measurable business outcomes.

This is a people leadership and delivery leadership role, not a hands-on coding position. The ideal candidate is an experienced technology leader who has delivered AI/ML, GenAI, MLOps, or complex data solutions and has enough technical depth to effectively engage with and challenge technical teams. Success will depend heavily on team leadership, delivery execution, stakeholder management, and budget and resource ownership.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of technology delivery experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • People management experience, including coaching, developing, and building high-performing technical teams.
  • Experience delivering AI/ML, GenAI, MLOps, ML pipeline, or data-platform solutions, with meaningful AI/ML delivery exposure.
  • Working knowledge of the ML/LLM lifecycle, including model evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
  • Technical depth to effectively engage with data scientists and engineers and understand concepts such as RAG, model evaluation, integration, and production readiness.
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasting, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with Agile/Lean delivery practices and leading through ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI, cloud AI platforms, and responsible AI practices preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage, coach, and develop a small to mid-sized team, building a high-performing, accountable team.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of AI/ML, GenAI, and agentic AI initiatives from discovery and proof of concept through production and adoption.
  • Lead delivery across multiple initiatives and scrum teams, ensuring priorities, commitments, and business outcomes are achieved.
  • Partner with Product Owners, technical teams, and business stakeholders to establish priorities, success measures, delivery milestones, and production readiness.
  • Identify and resolve delivery risks and dependencies across data, engineering, platform, security, architecture, and business teams.
  • Provide sufficient technical leadership to challenge estimates, identify risks, and facilitate decisions around AI/ML delivery, evaluation, integration, and deployment.
  • Establish appropriate delivery standards, stage gates, and responsible AI practices throughout the lifecycle.
  • Manage staffing, capacity, budgets, forecasting, resource allocation, and vendor relationships across the portfolio.
  • Build team capability through coaching, development, cross-training, and identification of emerging skill needs.
  • Use delivery, adoption, quality, cost, and business outcomes to measure performance and continuously improve execution.
  • Build trusted relationships with business and technical stakeholders and communicate risks, trade-offs, progress, and outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Stay current on relevant AI capabilities and delivery practices, including GenAI, RAG, agentic AI, model evaluation, and AI governance.
