What they need

It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.

We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.

The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.

If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Primary Function of Position:

As a Senior EHS Specialist, you will drive environmental, health, and safety excellence across our EMEA commercial operations. Partnering with business leaders and employees, you will ensure regulatory compliance, lead EHS initiatives, and foster a strong culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.

Roles and Responsibilities:

EHS Partnership & Business Support

  • Serve as EHS partner for commercial offices, training centers, field-based employees, and business functions across the EMEA region, fostering strong partnerships with HR, Facilities, managers, and employees.
  • Collaborate closely with Global EHS, HR, Facilities, Legal, and business leadership to align EHS strategies with organizational objectives and business needs.
  • Drive regional EHS communication, training, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives to strengthen safety culture and promote employee wellbeing.

EHS Compliance, Risk Management & Occupational Health

  • Monitor regulatory developments, interpret legal requirements, and translate them into practical and sustainable business solutions.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve risk assessments and risk mitigation strategies for commercial activities, workplaces, and job functions throughout the EMEA region.
  • Manage regional occupational health programs, including the selection, coordination, and oversight of occupational healthcare providers and external EHS service partners.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs, policies, and processes to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, corporate standards, and industry best practices across multiple countries.
  • Support EHS management activities, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance, sustainability initiatives, and property risk management programs.

Regional EHS Program Management & Service Provider Coordination

  • Build, coordinate, and support a network of local EHS contacts, consultants, and external service providers to ensure effective execution of EHS programs and compliance activities.
  • Support EHS audits, regulatory inspections, property risk reviews, and other compliance assessments while ensuring timely closure of findings and continuous improvement actions.
  • Contribute to annual budget planning and forecasting activities and manage EHS-related expenditures and service providers across the EMEA commercial organization.

Incident Management, Reporting & Performance Improvement

  • Lead incident management processes, including investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and trend analysis to prevent recurrence and improve performance.
  • Prepare and present EHS performance reports, compliance updates, KPIs, and strategic recommendations to regional and global leadership teams.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Advanced degrees and relevant certifications (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 45001) are a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven EHS experience within an international or multinational environment.
  • Preference for experience within the healthcare, clinical, hospital, or broader life sciences sector, including familiarity with radiation protection, biosafety, and infection prevention and control requirements.
  • Strong understanding of EHS regulatory requirements and best practices applicable to commercial operations across the EMEA region.
  • Proven ability to build trusted partnerships and effectively influence stakeholders across different cultures, countries, and organizational levels.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence, engage, and drive change across diverse audiences and organizational levels.
  • Strong project and program management skills, with demonstrated experience coordinating external consultants and service providers, managing multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Fluent English and German (written and spoken) is required. Additional languages are highly desirable, particularly Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, or Dutch.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the EMEA region as required. (app. 30%)
