Sr. Electromechanical Product Design Engineer

What To Expect The Electrical Distribution System is the connective framework which provides power and communications connectivity to every device in Tesla products. From connection and termination design to automated wiring construction and more, the Electrical Distribution Mechanical Design team rethinks how electronic systems are designed and assembled from first principles, and how vehicles are manufactured as a result.

Our novel and often patented technologies and collaboration with other cross-functional engineering teams enable unequaled world class performance and vertical integration in Tesla’s vehicle and energy products.

We are looking for engineers who reason from first principles and can take a product from design and prototype through manufacturing, testing, and production ramp. Recent work includes the 48V distribution system, connectivity in Cybertruck, CyberCab and Semi, Low Voltage Connector Standard (LVCS), and more.

What You'll Do- Design mechanical components and mechanisms related to electrical connections, conductors, assembly aids and vehicle integration parts

• Develop novel technologies that unlock wiring automation and enable higher performance LV systems

• Perform thermal/structural modeling of components and systems

• Build prototypes and perform functional validation in both laboratory and prototype vehicles

• Work with cross functional engineering and integration teams to develop functional systems

• Work with electrical engineers and PCBA designers to integrate components into electro-mechanical systems

• Collaborate with test and reliability engineers to validate new designs in accelerated testing

• Work with manufacturing/ automation engineers and suppliers to transition concepts to production

• Mentor junior engineers by providing technical oversight or coaching as necessary What You'll Bring- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

• 3-5 years of demonstrated success in the mechanical engineering field, experience in electromechanical product design is a plus

• Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, stamping, extrusion, etc.

• Demonstratable mechanical engineering fundamental knowledge

• Detail oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills

• Proficiency in CAD modeling, CATIA experience highly valued but not required

$130,400 - $276,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
