Description

Job Purpose

The Packaging SR. Engineer will strive to reduce incidents of damage and improve the delivery condition of parts to Parts Distribution Centers (PDCs) and Original Equipment (OE) customers. The Packaging SR. Engineer will recommend, analyze, and select packaging materials and designs based on durability and cost effectiveness that can withstand the normal rigors of storage and transportation. He/she will analyze and review highly reported damaged parts and submit packaging improvement requests to suppliers. Additionally, he/she will review current PDC packing methods and develop standards and packaging guidelines for suppliers.

Key Accountabilities

• Develop, review, and approve new accessory packaging proposals derived from the most current damage claims data incurred by packaging. (30%)
• Update the Kia/Hyundai Dealer Damage Database and perform analytical analysis on high-damage-rate parts. (20%)
• Prepare vendor packaging improvement requests based on high-damage-rate parts. (20%)
• Work with PDCs to review current packaging methods and loading/handling of parts shipments. (20%)
• Monitor and prepare packaging improvement request reports and distribute them to management. (10%)

Key Performance Indicators

• Review existing vendor packaging methods and designs and recommend revisions and improvements.
• Review new accessory product packaging designs to ensure product integrity under varying shipping conditions. Recommend changes as needed and provide guidance to suppliers on Mobis Parts America (MPA) requirements.
• Work with PDCs to review current packaging methods and practices.
• Update the Kia/Hyundai Dealer Damage Database and perform analytical analysis on high-damage-rate parts.
• Recommend, analyze, and select packaging materials based on durability and cost effectiveness.
• Prepare carrier claim information related to overseas shipments from Korea and domestic vendors as needed.
• Maintain and update the MPA Packaging Manual for domestic suppliers.
• Manage the monthly packaging improvement request report to Korea and local suppliers.
• Encourage all PDCs to use the same corrugated boxes for the same parts to increase volume and reduce unit cost.
• Review annual corrugated box bidding RFQs and estimated annual usage for all PDCs.
• Test and analyze box samples from participating vendors and provide recommendations as needed.
• Eliminate unnecessary box sizes to maintain a consolidated list across all PDCs and maximize cost savings.
• Work closely with all PDC managers and supervisors to monitor corrugated box inventory, prevent last-minute ordering, and avoid unnecessary overstocking.
• Perform a variety of tasks and projects as required while working under general supervision.

Major Challenges and Key Decisions

• The Packaging SR. Engineer is expected to operate within the policies and procedures established by PDC Quality Operations and adhere to generally accepted business practices.
• The Packaging SR. Engineer is expected to identify and resolve issues within assigned areas of responsibility with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

Experience Requirements

Required:

• 4 to 7 years of experience in packaging or a related field.
• 1 to 3 years of experience with transportation delivery systems and routing methods.
• In-depth knowledge of packaging components, materials, and technologies related to the development, testing, and implementation of new product packaging.
• Familiarity with auto parts, catalogs, diagrams, concepts, and methodologies.
• Knowledge and use of computer query languages such as SAS, QMF, or similar tools.

Education Requirements

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Proficiency with intermediate software applications, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.

Compensation - Annual Salary , $72,372.88 - 107,473.73
