Sr. Firmware Engineer (Embedded Linux/Yocto)

About the role

Lucidtron Inc. is seeking for an experienced Senior Firmware Engineer specializing in Embedded Linux and Yocto. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining embedded firmware and Linux-based software for embedded systems. This is a remote position requiring working closely with hardware and software engineers to deliver high-quality products

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded Linux firmware solutions using Yocto Project, with a focus on optimisation and scalability
• Lead the architecture and implementation of firmware features, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and technical standards
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical mentoring to junior firmware engineers, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex firmware issues in embedded systems, including kernel-level debugging and performance optimisation
• Collaborate with hardware design teams to validate firmware implementations and ensure seamless hardware-software integration
• Manage Yocto build configurations, layer management, and customisation to meet project-specific requirements
• Develop and maintain documentation for firmware architecture, design decisions, and system-level specifications
• Participate in the evaluation and integration of third-party software components and libraries
• Ensure firmware compliance with security standards and implement best practices for embedded system security
• Drive continuous integration and deployment processes for firmware releases and updates

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline

• 5+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware development

• Advanced proficiency in C and C++ programming languages for embedded systems

• Deep understanding of Linux kernel architecture, device drivers, and kernel module development

• Comprehensive knowledge of Yocto Project, BitBake, and embedded Linux build systems

• Hands-on experience with bootloaders, u-boot, and firmware flashing mechanisms

• Proven expertise in debugging tools and techniques, including GDB, JTAG, and logic analysers

• Strong background in embedded systems design, including microcontrollers, system-on-chip (SoC) platforms, and real-time operating systems

• Experience with platforms, i.mx6, STM32MP, STM32U, ESP32, Dragonwin

• Knowledge of ARM architecture and ARM-based processors is highly desirable
