MANUFACTURING ENGINEER
Job description:
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing manufacturing processes to improve production efficiency, product quality, and cost effectiveness. This role focuses on electronics manufacturing, particularly Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA), with emphasis on process improvement, automation, tooling development, and production optimization.
The position works closely with cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing challenges, support new product introduction, and implement engineering solutions that enhance productivity, minimize production downtime, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manufacturing Process Development and Optimization
Design, develop, and implement efficient manufacturing processes and production workflows for electronics assembly.
Analyze production performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.
Develop and maintain production schedules, work instructions, standard operating procedures, and process documentation.
Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and ensure on-time delivery.
Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to enhance process capability and operational performance.
2. SMT, PCBA, and Soldering Process Engineering
Provide technical support for SMT and PCBA manufacturing processes, including component assembly, wave soldering, selective soldering, and PCB testing.
Optimize soldering processes and parameters to ensure consistent product quality and reliable assembly.
Develop and improve manufacturing fixtures, jigs, tooling, and equipment to support production requirements.
Identify opportunities to reduce manual component insertion and hand-soldering operations through automation and process engineering solutions.
Ensure manufacturing processes comply with applicable PCB assembly standards and customer specifications.
3. Automation and Continuous Improvement
Lead and implement process improvement and automation projects to increase production efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs.
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive manual operations and improve production consistency.
Apply Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement methodologies to eliminate waste and optimize resource utilization.
Monitor the effectiveness of implemented improvements through production data, process performance, and quality metrics.
Evaluate emerging manufacturing technologies and recommend solutions to improve operational performance.
4. New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering Support
Support New Product Introduction activities by developing and validating manufacturing processes for new products.
Collaborate with Design, Quality, Production, and other engineering teams to ensure products are manufacturable and meet production requirements.
Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to improve assembly efficiency and product quality.
Participate in process validation, trial production, and engineering evaluations to ensure production readiness.
Develop and validate fixtures, tooling, and testing solutions required for new and existing products.
5. Quality Assurance and Technical Support
Establish and monitor process control measures to ensure products meet quality standards and customer requirements.
Investigate production defects, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Provide technical guidance and training to production personnel on manufacturing processes, equipment operation, and process improvements.
Coordinate with Quality Assurance and Production teams to resolve recurring manufacturing issues.
Maintain accurate engineering records, process documentation, and improvement project reports.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in electronics manufacturing, with strong exposure to SMT and PCBA processes.
Demonstrated experience leading process improvement and automation projects to enhance manufacturing efficiency and productivity.
Hands-on experience in wave soldering, selective soldering, fixture and tooling design, and PCB testing.
Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), PCB assembly processes, fixture design, and manufacturing automation.
Proven ability to develop engineering solutions that reduce manual component insertion and hand-soldering operations while improving productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.
Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI), Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Excellent communication, coordination, and teamwork abilities.
