Sr. Network Engineer - Project Consultant

Title: Senior Network Engineer – Infrastructure Deployment

Compensation: $60–90+/hour, depending on experience

Job Type: Short-term consulting engagement

Project Duration: 1–2 weeks

Location: San Diego, CA – onsite

Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the United States Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the physical deployment of one Juniper EX4000-12P switch and two Juniper Mist AP47 wireless access points.
• Review floor plans and conduct site validation to confirm equipment locations, AP placement, cable routes, mounting requirements, and installation prerequisites.
• Develop a practical installation plan and sequence of work for client approval.
• Coordinate with a structured-cabling technician to complete cable installation, equipment mounting, patching, labeling, and testing.
• Mount the switch on an approved backboard or mounting surface using appropriate hardware and manufacturer guidance.
• Validate physical connections, uplink readiness, and power/PoE delivery in coordination with the client’s network team.
• Troubleshoot installation-related issues and distinguish physical-layer problems from configuration dependencies.
• Maintain clear communication with client contacts and immediately escalate outages, safety concerns, blocked dependencies, or scope changes.
• Document installed equipment, port assignments, cable-test results, outstanding items, and completion status.
• Support the final walkthrough and handoff to the client’s network team.

Qualifications:

• Five or more years of relevant experience in enterprise network deployment, network field engineering, or hands-on infrastructure installation.
• Demonstrated experience physically installing switches, wireless access points, and associated network infrastructure.
• Working knowledge of structured cabling, patch panels, fiber patching, uplinks, PoE, and physical-layer troubleshooting.
• Ability to interpret floor plans, assess installation conditions, and identify practical AP locations and cable pathways.
• Experience coordinating field technicians or low-voltage contractors and validating installation quality.
• Strong documentation, client communication, and independent problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to perform hands-on installation work rather than solely design or remote administration.
• Availability to work onsite in San Diego for the initial 1–2 week engagement.

Preferred:

• Juniper EX-series and Mist wireless deployment experience.
• Enterprise wireless coverage planning or site-survey experience.
• Experience with cable-testing equipment and documented installation acceptance.
• Relevant Juniper, Cisco, CompTIA, or structured-cabling certifications.
