What they need
What to Expect
Giga Texas New Vehicle Launch Quality is hiring a Sr. Product Quality Launch Engineer to own quality on new vehicle programs from pilot through start of production.
You will set the quality plan for the build, decide what is contained and what is closed, and hold body, paint, stamping, general assembly, and end of line to that plan. You keep leadership and the cross-functional shops current, and you coordinate the Quality owners so validations are covered before the next build. You keep those relationships productive when the quality call is a difficult one.
You will work across engineering, manufacturing, and the program team, and you will hand a clean process to sustaining quality when the program enters production.
What You'll Do
- Own quality for pilot and production intent builds. Set the standard the build must meet, and make the call on whether a pilot is clear to leave
- Own containment for nonconforming parts and assemblies. Open it, set the exit criteria, and close it before the next pilot so a known escape does not ship again
- Own quality status across program milestones. Name the gaps that can stop a ship, assign an owner and a date, and send the pilot plan to shop leads before build day, including quantity, date, whether the cars are customer sellable, inspection support, rework, and open items
- Provide updates to leadership and to cross-functional shops, in writing and in person. State the risk, the containment, and the decision needed, bring a recommendation, and use the same standard when you present or when you escalate
- Coordinate Quality owners across the shops for validations, so each validation has an owner, a date, and a result before the next build
- Decide which issue becomes a tracked item and which one stays with the shop. Drive closure with the owner and keep one live list
- Hold the owner to a fix, whether that owner sits in the shop, in engineering, or on the program. Close an issue only when the evidence comes from the vehicles
- Set the standard for inspection, rework, and corrective-action records. Review failure writeups before they go to the shops. Put inline checks and work instructions in the shop that created the issue before end of line is asked to catch it
- Run the quality work as a program. Keep a plan, named owners, dates, and one live issue list in a project tool such as Jira, Microsoft Project, or another project management platform
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering, or equivalent experience
5 or more years in quality engineering, manufacturing quality, or technical program management
Working knowledge of factory quality systems, including nonconformances, holds, and corrective action
Ability to read a mechanical drawing and a basic GD&T callout well enough to argue a fit issue with the owner of the shop
Communicates with clarity in every setting this role uses. A written update, a working discussion, a presentation, or a raised issue all leave the audience with the risk, the evidence, and the decision needed
Has a record of productive working relationships across shops, engineering, the program, and leadership, including when the quality decision is a difficult one
Skilled in Excel for data management and reporting, including pivot tables, and able to draw a robust conclusion from a large set of quality data
Preferred qualifications include: Ownership of at least one vehicle launch from pilot into production, PMP, or an equivalent project management certification, SQL for pulling quality data
