Role Overview

PIC, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Software Developer to build and support business-critical web, backend, data, database, and cloud solutions. This engineer will translate business goals into technical outcomes, collaborate effectively with the team, and take ownership from design through production support.

The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer with solid PostgreSQL expertise and a passion for building high-quality solutions. They are intellectually curious, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning. While deep expertise in every technology within our stack is not required, success in this role requires a strong foundation in software development, an understanding of the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle, and the ability to quickly learn new technologies and deliver results.

The preferred remote location for this position is Brazil, with approximately 5% domestic and international travel required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Understand business goals and translate them into practical, measurable technical solutions.
• Own work from discovery and design through development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and support.
• Develop web applications, backend services, APIs, data-processing solutions, integrations, and cloud services.
• Develop and maintain PHP applications and contribute to future use of Laravel and modern front-end frameworks.
• Design, optimize, test, and troubleshoot PostgreSQL solutions with complex SQL, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
• Create automated unit, database, integration, API, and end-to-end tests as appropriate.
• Use AI tools for coding, testing, debugging, documentation, automation, and experimentation while recognizing when deterministic solutions are required.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and evaluate trade-offs in value, speed, quality, security, performance, reliability, and cost.
• Understand how solutions are deployed, accessed, monitored, and supported in Microsoft Azure using Azure DevOps and CI/CD practices.
• Collaborate across product, business, data, platform, DevOps, security, and engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot across application, database, integration, and cloud layers and implement durable fixes.
• Continuously learn new technologies, test ideas quickly, and improve engineering practices and team effectiveness.
• Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.
• Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications (Required):

• Strong software engineering experience, including:
  • Demonstrated record of delivering meaningful software outcomes, continuous growth, and the ability to explain what they want to learn and accomplish next.
  • Strong software engineering, debugging, design, source control, code review, and production support skills.
  • Backend development experience with PHP or a comparable language, with willingness to work in PHP and learn Laravel.
  • Strong PostgreSQL and relational database experience, including complex SQL, transactions, stored procedures or functions, triggers, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with REST APIs, backend services, data processing, and JavaScript-based web applications.
• Understanding of automated testing across multiple test layers.
• Understanding of cloud delivery, security, availability, logging, monitoring, and operational support.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies, make progress without excessive direction, collaborate effectively, communicate trade-offs, and own outcomes.

Language Skills

• Fluent in English required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Laravel and React, Angular, or Vue.js.
• TypeScript and Playwright or another browser automation framework.
• Python for automation, testing, prototyping, or data processing.
• Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps.
• CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes concepts.
• NoSQL concepts, design trade-offs, and appropriate use cases.
• Application observability, performance monitoring, and production diagnostics.
• AI-assisted development or integration of AI into products and business automation.
• Personal projects, prototypes, open-source work, technical communities, or other evidence of continuous learning.
