Sr. Staff Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Staff Accountant to support an established organization in New Orleans, Louisiana. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can strengthen financial accuracy, assist with audit preparation, and contribute to a smooth month-end process. The role will focus on general ledger activity, journal entry review, reconciliation work, and budget alignment within the organization’s financial structure.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare audit support schedules and gather documentation needed for testing and review activities.

• Create and evaluate journal entries related to payroll and other recurring accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness.

• Review accounts payable subledger activity and ensure entries are properly recorded in the general ledger.

• Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

• Support month-end close by analyzing account activity, validating balances, and helping maintain accurate financial records.

• Assist with mapping and aligning budget information to the updated general ledger framework.

• Research variances and unusual transactions, then recommend corrections to maintain reliable reporting.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve accounting workflows and uphold strong financial controls.

• Experience working in a senior-level staff accountant or similar accounting role.

• Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures, general ledger accounting, and journal entry preparation.

• Hands-on experience with account reconciliations and bank reconciliations.

• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze financial data efficiently.

• Familiarity with Great Plains and Financial Edge is preferred.

• Ability to prepare audit schedules and respond to documentation requests with accuracy.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a structured environment.
