Position: Staff Accountant

Job Description:

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Staff Accountant is an important part of the Vercity finance team. The finance team is responsible for the financial management of multiple infrastructure projects across Canada and the United States within a Public Private Partnership (P3) environment. Duties primarily include day-to-day accounting, maintenance of financial records, processing payments, preparing invoices, and supporting the overall financial management of project companies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Accounts payable, including preparing payment summaries for review and processing payments through banking platforms;
• Accounts receivable, including preparing and issuing sales invoices;
• Preparation and posting of standard monthly journal entries;
• Assisting with full-cycle accounting activities in Canada and/or USA;
• Preparing monthly bank reconciliations;
• Preparing GST/HST returns;
• Assisting with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements;
• Assisting with year-end audit working papers and external audit requests;
• Communicating and working with various internal and external stakeholders;
• Administrative and other duties as required.

Requirements:

• Located in Victoria, BC or Toronto, ON.
• Relevant accounting education and/or experience, with 1+ years of working accounting experience considered an asset;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment;
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
