What they need

Premier Group is hiring a meticulous Staff Accountant who believes in building more than just a career. This full-time position in Landover, MD offers competitive, experience-based pay.

The Culture You'll Join:

Premier Group Services Inc. (PGS) is a full-service certified public accounting and management consulting firm. We provide financial-related audits, accounting support, and related services for a diverse client pool, including federal, state, and local governments. Our mission is "Trust that's our Bottom Line".

We prioritize the success of our team members by creating a culture that promotes work/life balance, fosters professional development, and encourages teamwork. We're a dynamic organization, large enough to provide unique career opportunities, yet small enough to ensure personal attention to your professional growth. If you are seeking a dynamic organization that values you, we want to hear from you!

WHAT YOU WILL DO AS OUR STAFF ACCOUNTANT:

This position provides multiple clients with a broad range of accounting, reconciliation, and compliance-related activities, including financial reporting, workpaper preparation, month-end closes, and client follow-up. Our clients all run different types of businesses, and you'll learn the ins and outs of their unique companies to provide tailored accurate and reliable financial assistance. This includes reconciling accounts and supporting schedules, managing the general ledger, and preparing various financial statements, entries, and accruals. If you identify unreconciled items, discrepancies, abnormal balances, missing transactions, or other accounting issues, you'll research the cause and find a practical solution.

In addition to day-to-day excellence, you'll support future growth by helping develop budgets, track expenditures, and compare projected earnings with actual revenue. Additional responsibilities include assisting with grant accounting, 2 CFR Part 200 financial reviews, payroll/labor cost analysis, and other duties as assigned. The Staff Accountant regularly works within Excel, follows all established accounting procedures, and adjusts accounting processes to fit each client's unique funding structure, financial system, and reporting requirements.

Performance Expectations: Completing and submitting timely, accurate work, reviewing work to avoid repeated errors, utilizing resources and workpapers before escalating issues, proactively communicating about missing information or potential deadline changes, applying review feedback, demonstrating measurable technical growth and independent understanding, and learning how individual tasks affect each client's finances and broader engagement

DO YOU BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS?

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles, reconciliations, debit/credit, journal entries, and financial statements
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, sorting, filtering, lookup functions, and basic PivotTables)
  • Sharp attention to detail and ability to closely follow established accounting procedures
  • Critical thinking skills for researching discrepancies, asking effective questions, resolving problems, and escalating issues appropriately
  • Strong organizational and time management skills for managing multiple priorities and meeting all deadlines
  • Professional communication skills (verbal & written) for interacting with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders

Our Ideal Staff Accountant:

  • CPA eligibility or interest in pursuing certification
  • 1+ years of accounting experience, relevant entry-level experience, or completion of an internship
  • Nonprofit, governmental, grant, or federal accounting experience
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online or another accounting system
  • Ability to take ownership of work and accountability for results
  • Desire to grow professionally and improve over time
  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively use various accounting, workflow, reporting, and collaboration technology
