Duties

• Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
• Manage general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing processes.
• Oversee project-specific accounting functions such as job cost tracking, budget variance analysis, and project profitability assessments.
• Conduct detailed account analysis using Excel data analysis techniques like VLOOKUP functions and pivot tables to identify discrepancies or trends.
• Ensure regulatory compliance by adhering to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and maintaining thorough documentation for audit readiness.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing audit schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to inquiries related to construction financials.
• Utilize financial software such as PeopleSoft or similar platforms to record transactions accurately and generate detailed reports.
• Perform bank reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable management, and cash flow analysis to maintain healthy financial operations.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities specific to construction projects.
• Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure accurate project cost tracking and financial reporting.

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.
• Proven experience in accounting within the construction industry or a similar field involving complex project-based accounting.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, regulatory compliance accounting including SOX controls, and construction-specific accounting practices such as LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) or governmental funding requirements.
• Proficiency with financial software such as PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, Quicken or similar platforms; advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite—especially Excel for data analysis and report writing.
• Familiarity with technical accounting concepts including double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
• Experience with financial concepts like budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis.
• Knowledge of securities law or estate law is a plus but not required; a solid understanding of public accounting standards is advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff or team members while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
