Job Summary:
Heartland Tax and Accounting LLC is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with various accounting tasks, including data entry, bank reconciliations, financial analysis, payroll processing, sales tax processing, accounts payable, accounts receivables, and preparation of management reports. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate accounting and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Individual, corporate, trust/estate tax preparation is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Perform general accounting duties, including data entry, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities

• Processing payroll and related reports

• Processing sales tax returns

• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed

• Assist in the preparation of management reports as well as client requested reports

• Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement

• Collaborate with internal teams to gather financial data and support decision-making processes

• Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and ensure compliance with accounting standards

• Communication with clients to obtain missing information

• Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts

• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior accounting staff

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of corporate accounting principles and practices

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft products, including Excel, Outlook, Word

• Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online

• AI integrations and general AI utilization

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to write clear and concise financial reports

• Solid understanding of financial analysis techniques and methodologies

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

• Ability to interpret complex financial reports accurately

• Proficiency in ProConnect or other related tax preparation software is preferred

• Experience with CRMs is preferred

• Familiarity with securities law is preferred
