Staff Backend Engineer, AMER

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer, AMER to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.

This role will lead large-scale backend initiatives that span multiple teams and support the evolution of complex application and service architectures. You will play a key part in modernizing legacy systems into modular backend platforms while setting technical standards that improve security, API quality, and operational reliability. The position also involves shaping engineering practices, strengthening service maturity, and contributing to incident response and continuous improvement across the organization.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $152,800 – $259,200 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of large backend initiatives across teams
• Drive modernization efforts from monolithic architectures to modular systems
• Define standards for APIs, security, and operational practices
• Establish patterns for data management and service maturity
• Participate in on-call incident response and drive improvements
• Influence technical direction without formal authority across teams
• Mentor engineers and improve the overall technical capacity of the team

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with a focus on complex applications and services
• Proven technical leadership across multiple teams or product areas
• Experience in modernizing legacy systems to modular backend architectures
• Strong written communication skills for proposals and decision-making
• Expertise in evaluating and integrating AI-assisted engineering workflows
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical standards
