Staff Backend Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Transportation space.

This role will focus on building and scaling backend systems that support a product used daily across a large retail network. You will lead the design and deployment of reliable APIs, partner closely with product and design teams, and help deliver integrated solutions that improve operational efficiency. The position also offers the opportunity to work in an AI-native engineering environment where speed, collaboration, and sound technical judgment are essential.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $168,000 – $253,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and deployment of scalable APIs and backend systems
• Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and product managers
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Contribute to a product used daily in thousands of grocery stores
• Use advanced AI development tools to improve product delivery

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of software development experience
• Ability to lead projects from conception to launch
• Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Interest in mentoring junior engineers
• Curiosity about complex systems and the business domain
