Staff Embedded Software Engineer (PCIe/CXL)

We are supporting an established international semiconductor business in the appointment of a senior-level engineer for its platform software organisation.

The position focuses on the software that enables high-speed communication between processors, memory and peripheral devices. You will develop embedded code for advanced PCIe and CXL implementations, working directly with the engineers responsible for the underlying silicon and system design.

This would suit someone who enjoys solving complex problems close to the hardware and wants to influence new technology before it reaches production.

What You´ll Do

You will be responsible for building and improving the firmware and driver layers that control PCIe and CXL functionality within future chipset platforms.

• Developing embedded software and device drivers in C.
• Bringing up, testing and troubleshooting new interconnect functionality.
• Diagnosing issues across firmware, operating-system and hardware boundaries.
• Translating technical specifications into dependable production software.
• Improving throughput, latency, power consumption and system stability.
• Supporting validation and product-readiness activities.
• Reviewing software designs and contributing to important technical decisions.
• Partnering with silicon, architecture and systems teams throughout development.
• Providing input into future platform and chipset designs.

As a Staff Engineer, you will be expected to work with a high degree of independence, bring structure to technically ambiguous problems and communicate effectively with specialists from several engineering disciplines.

Relevant Experience

• Seven or more years of embedded software engineering experience.
• Substantial practical knowledge of PCI Express.
• Hands-on exposure to Compute Express Link.
• Strong commercial programming experience in C.
• A background in firmware, driver or other hardware-facing software development.
• Experience working with embedded operating systems or real-time environments.
• Familiarity with technologies such as UEFI, ACPI, Zephyr or the Linux kernel.
• Experience interpreting and implementing complex technical standards.
• A track record of improving software performance or reducing power usage.
• Strong debugging skills and the ability to analyse behaviour at system level.
• Confidence working collaboratively with both software and hardware engineers.
• A master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical subject would be advantageous.
