About the Role

Hiring a Staff Engineer for Modernization to turn the target architecture into repeatable delivery patterns across product pods. The platform is moving incrementally from JBoss Wildfly, JSF, and Hibernate toward Spring Boot services and Angular while continuing to serve live clients.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role with no permanent delivery squad. You will unblock difficult migrations, create reusable implementation patterns, pair with pods on early slices, and help Engineering Leads plan modernization alongside feature delivery.

What You Will Own

• Build reference code and reusable patterns for Spring Boot services, Angular migration, testing, observability, and deployment.
• Pair with pods on the first implementation of complex or high-risk modernization patterns.
• Help sequence modernization into small releases with explicit rollback and compatibility plans.
• Identify repeated migration friction and improve shared libraries, tooling, documentation, or architecture guidance.
• Review modernization code and coach engineers moving from legacy Java EE and JSF patterns.
• Partner with the Principal Architect and Data and Platform Principal on service and data separation.
• Track practical modernization progress such as retired components, reduced coupling, and adoption of approved patterns.

What You Bring

• 10+ years of hands-on Java engineering.
• Experience leading a substantial migration from Java EE or another legacy enterprise stack to modern services.
• Deep Spring Boot expertise and strong working knowledge of modern Angular.
• Experience with automated testing, containers, CI/CD, observability, and production migration controls.
• Ability to move between architecture, code, debugging, mentoring, and delivery planning.
• Credibility in both legacy code and modern engineering patterns.
