The new Staff Quality Engineer will help strengthen quality across our engineering and business teams by driving quality across the full product journey—from development and supplier partnerships to operations, systems, and the customer experience. You’ll use data and collaboration to understand priorities, solve problems, take corrective action, and identify opportunities to improve how we work.

As the Staff Quality Engineer, you will:

  • Represent Quality Engineering on New Product Introduction projects, identifying risks and partnering with cross-functional teams to develop contingency plans
  • Develop and maintain proactive and reactive supplier quality processes to support quality, cost, and performance goals
  • Monitor internal quality metrics, identify trends, and lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement projects
  • Use the CAPA system to address internal, supplier, and customer quality issues in partnership with cross-functional teams

Who you are and the experience you bring:

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  • 7+ years of quality experience in a high-technology industry, preferably in an electro-mechanical product development, manufacturing, and test environment, particularly in industrial manufacturing/assembly and/or precision machining industries
  • Experience with Supplier Quality Management methodologies (APQP, PPAP, SCAR)
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) stage-gate processes
  • Proficient in problem solving techniques/tools (root cause analysis/corrective action, 8D) and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma/DMAIC, Kaizen)
  • Knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with Statistical/Quality Tools (DOE, SPC, fault tree analysis, FMEA, auditing, cost of poor quality, control plan, safe launch)
  • Knowledge of Quality Management System standards (ISO9001: 2015)
  • Experience with Oracle ERP software
  • Ability to influence and build buy-in to product/process changes and the investment of resources

Preferred experience that differentiates you:

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt

Location: Onsite - Kent, WA

Travel: Up to 25% domestic and international

Additional benefits in joining Hypertherm Associates:

  • Collaborative, 100% employee-owned culture
  • Profit-Sharing and Employee Stock Ownership (ESOP)
  • Five days/year paid Community Service Time
  • Strong commitment to Environmental Stewardship
