Staff Software Engineer, Auth/Accounts

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Auth/Accounts to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.

This role will drive architecture and delivery across authentication, authorization, and account lifecycle systems that are foundational to the company's platform. You will partner closely with product and security stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable technical solutions while shaping API strategy and migration paths. The position also calls for hands-on backend engineering, operational reliability improvements, and mentorship that elevates engineers across the organization.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $158,900 – $234,125 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead major architecture and delivery initiatives across authentication, authorization, and account lifecycle systems.
• Define technical direction across multiple services, including API contracts and migration paths.
• Translate complex product and security requirements into clear designs while managing dependencies across teams.
• Build scalable backend services while improving testing and operational reliability.
• Guide and develop engineers across teams, strengthening technical design skills.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of guiding cross-team architecture and resolving high-impact technical trade-offs.
• Expertise in API design, distributed systems, data modeling, and production operations.
• Experience in high-risk domains where security, correctness, and performance are paramount.
• Ability to write clear design docs, align non-technical stakeholders, and mentor senior engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools into engineering work and evaluate their output critically.
