This is a permanent, full-time position (subject to successful completion of the probationary period) and will involve a combination of office-based work, field visits, and occasional international travel. The successful candidate will report directly to the Managing Director.

The Standards & Technical Lead is a key position within AITT, responsible for the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of training and testing standards across all accredited categories. Acting as the Association's principal technical authority, the role will work closely with members, industry stakeholders, manufacturers and regulatory bodies to ensure AITT standards remain current, relevant and aligned with industry best practice.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, maintain, and review training standards across all AITT and ABA accredited categories.
  • Develop and maintain training manuals, instructor guides, learner resources, presentations and assessment materials, ensuring they remain current, technically accurate and consistent with AITT standards.
  • Create and deliver technical presentations, webinars, workshops, and industry briefings.
  • Monitor changes in legislation, industry practice, equipment technology and other developments that may affect AITT standards.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new training programmes, endorsements, and accreditation pathways.
  • Maintain category technical specifications, practical test standards, and assessment requirements.
  • Review and improve training delivery methods to ensure consistency throughout the accreditation scheme.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate technical relationships with manufacturers, industry bodies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure AITT remains informed of emerging equipment, technology, standards and industry developments.
  • Research emerging industry trends and incorporate best practice into training materials.‌
  • Develop and continuously improve training methodologies to deliver an engaging, inclusive, and effective learning experience for all delegates, recognising different learning preferences.
  • Ensure all training documentation remains accurate, current, and fit for purpose.
  • Investigate complaints, appeals, and technical disputes relating to training delivery.
  • Recommend corrective actions and improvements to enhance training quality and compliance.
  • Act as the principal technical authority for AITT on all MHE training matters.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to members, instructors, examiners, and employers.
  • Interpret legislation, standards, and industry guidance affecting workplace transport and operator training.
  • Provide technical information, advice and recommendations to the Managing Director, Standards Committee and, where appropriate, Council on technical matters and industry developments.
  • Contribute to the development of role-specific quality objectives, KPIs and improvement plans, with performance objectives agreed with and reviewed by the Managing Director.
  • Maintain a formal review schedule for all accredited courses, including reviews following changes to legislation, industry practice, equipment technology or AITT standards.
  • Coordinate Standards Committee meetings and prepare technical information, proposals and recommendations for consideration by the Committee. Track agreed actions through to completion and report progress.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 10 years industry experience as a registered MHE Instructor with an ABA accrediting body.
  • A broad range of material handling equipment training qualifications.
  • Experience of Microsoft 365 applications.
  • A good level of computer literacy.
  • Experience in presenting to a variety of different audiences.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Must be willing and able to travel, including overnight stays where required.

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

  • ABA accrediting body Category 4 / Tutor (or equivalent)
