Location: DPL Site Operations

Role Overview

As a Steel Erector at DPL, you will be responsible for the safe and accurate installation of structural steelwork on construction sites. You will work as part of the site installation team to erect steel structures in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring steel installation activities are carried out efficiently, safely, and to the required quality standards. This role requires a high level of practical skill, strong awareness of health and safety requirements, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and erection sequences.

Key Responsibilities

1. Steel Installation and Erection

• Install structural steel components including beams, columns, bracing, and secondary steelwork in accordance with drawings and specifications.
• Interpret erection drawings and installation details to ensure steelwork is positioned and assembled correctly.
• Assist with lining, levelling, and plumbing steel structures to ensure accurate installation.
• Safely bolt, fix, and secure structural connections in accordance with installation procedures.
• Support lifting operations including guiding steel sections into position using appropriate lifting techniques.

2. Working at Height and Lifting Operations

• Safely work at height using appropriate access equipment such as MEWPs, scaffolding, or ladders.
• Assist with crane lifts, slinging loads where trained, and guiding steel into place safely.
• Ensure lifting operations are carried out in line with lifting plans and site safety procedures.
• Maintain awareness of exclusion zones and lifting hazards during steel erection works.

3. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

• Follow all site-specific health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS).
• Wear the correct PPE and ensure safe working practices at all times.
• Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, or risks and report them immediately to the Site Supervisor.
• Support the implementation of safe systems of work, particularly for lifting operations and work at height.
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.

4. Quality of Work

• Ensure steelwork is installed accurately and in accordance with drawings, specifications, and tolerances.
• Carry out checks to ensure bolts, fixings, and connections are installed correctly.
• Report any issues with fabricated components, missing items, or installation difficulties to the Site Supervisor.
• Assist with snagging and adjustments to ensure completed works meet project requirements.

5. Materials and Equipment

• Safely handle structural steel components and installation equipment.
• Ensure tools, lifting equipment, and fixings are used correctly and maintained in good condition.
• Assist with organising steel deliveries and storing materials safely on site.
• Report damaged materials, missing items, or equipment defects promptly.

6. Teamwork and Communication

• Work collaboratively with supervisors, site operatives, and subcontractors to ensure efficient installation progress.
• Follow instructions from the Site Supervisor or Working Supervisor and communicate progress or issues clearly.
• Support less experienced operatives and semi-skilled steel erectors in learning installation tasks.

7. Site Organisation and Housekeeping

• Maintain a safe, tidy, and organised working area during steel installation works.
• Ensure tools, fixings, and materials are stored correctly when not in use.
• Assist with maintaining safe access routes and safe working areas around erection activities.

• Demonstrate strong competence in structural steel erection and installation activities.
• Maintain high standards of safety, particularly when working at height or around lifting operations.
• Deliver steel installation works accurately and efficiently in line with project requirements.
• Support the site team in maintaining strong productivity and quality standards.
• Act as a reliable and experienced member of the steel installation team.

Support and Collaboration

As a Steel Erector, you will work closely with:

Site Supervisor – For daily instructions, coordination of installation works, and reporting progress.
Site Team – Including other steel erectors, operatives, and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient erection works.
Project Manager / Operations Team – Indirectly, to ensure installation works align with project schedules.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £16.64-£20.00 per hour
