About WonderLab

WonderLab is an interactive STEM and engineering enrichment program designed to encourage children to explore, experiment, build, test ideas, and solve problems.

Rather than relying on traditional lecture-based instruction, students learn through hands-on challenges, experiments, and collaborative projects that encourage curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.

Examples of program themes and activities include:

  • Bubble Science Spectacular – exploring bubbles, surface tension, shapes, and scientific observation
  • Magnet Mission – experimenting with magnetic forces, attraction, repulsion, and magnetic materials
  • Color Lab Adventure – investigating color mixing, reactions, patterns, and visual science
  • Sink or Float Harbor – testing buoyancy, density, predictions, and basic engineering concepts
  • Nature Builders – using natural materials and design challenges to explore structure, balance, and engineering
  • Wonder Carnival Showcase – bringing together STEM concepts through interactive stations, challenges, demonstrations, and student creations
  • Building and engineering challenges
  • Simple science experiments
  • Measurement and mathematical reasoning
  • Design thinking and creative problem-solving
  • Prediction, observation, testing, and reflection
  • Team-based STEM challenges
  • Trial-and-error learning and prototyping

The instructor's role is to guide students through each activity, encourage questions and experimentation, and help students connect what they observe to foundational STEM concepts.

Responsibilities

The STEM Enrichment Instructor will:

  • Lead prepared WonderLab STEM and engineering activities for elementary-aged students
  • Introduce STEM concepts in an engaging and age-appropriate way
  • Facilitate hands-on experiments, engineering challenges, and group activities
  • Encourage students to experiment, ask questions, make predictions, and develop their own solutions
  • Help students understand why an experiment, structure, or design succeeds or fails
  • Promote creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, and perseverance
  • Provide guidance while allowing students opportunities for independent discovery
  • Manage classroom behavior and transitions between activities
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of students throughout each session

Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in one or more of the following areas:

  • Elementary education
  • STEM or STEAM education
  • Science instruction
  • After-school enrichment programs
  • Children's camps or youth programming
  • Tutoring or academic enrichment

A traditional teaching background is valuable, but we are also interested in candidates with strong STEM knowledge and demonstrated experience working with children.
