What they need

Team Leader – Youth Support (STEP Program)

Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC
Lead a frontline team. Support young people. Keep culture and community central.

Jabalbina is seeking a practical, supportive Team Leader to guide our frontline team delivering the STEP Program.

This is an opportunity to combine team leadership with meaningful community-based work, helping young people on bail access the support they need to meet their bail conditions, address barriers and strengthen connections with family, community, education and other services.

About Jabalbina

Jabalbina works with Eastern Kuku Yalanji Traditional Owners to protect rights and interests, care for Country, strengthen culture and create opportunities for current and future generations.

Our work is guided by respect for Traditional Lore and Custom, cultural safety, accountability and collaboration.

About the role

Reporting to the STEP Operations / Practice Manager, you will provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and practical guidance to Intake / Rapid Response and Youth Work / Case Management staff.

You will help the team deliver timely, culturally safe and coordinated support through outreach, case management, court-related assistance and flexible after-hours responses.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting and coaching frontline staff through regular supervision and case guidance.
  • Coordinating referrals, case allocation, workloads, outreach and service coverage.
  • Overseeing assessments, support plans, case reviews and accurate client records.
  • Helping staff respond to complex situations, identify risks and escalate safeguarding concerns.
  • Monitoring service requirements and following up gaps in delivery or documentation.
  • Building effective working relationships with families, Youth Justice, courts, police and community services.

About you

You bring frontline service experience, sound judgement and a practical approach to supporting others. You can balance competing priorities while keeping young people’s safety, cultural needs and individual circumstances central to your work.

You will have:

  • A relevant qualification in community services, youth work, social work, human services or a related field, or substantial equivalent experience.
  • Experience in youth, family, community, justice, outreach or comparable case-management services.
  • Experience providing day-to-day leadership, supervision, case guidance or coordination to frontline staff.
  • The ability to assess risk and respond to or escalate complex and safeguarding concerns.
  • The ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, families, communities and service partners.
  • Strong communication, organisation, recordkeeping and digital skills.

Experience in Youth Justice, bail support, court-based services or intensive youth programs would be highly regarded, as would training in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation or staff supervision.

Role requirements

  • Current Queensland driver licence and capacity to travel across the program catchment.
  • Current Queensland Blue Card and satisfactory completion of required pre-employment screening.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain and maintain.
  • Availability to participate in rostered court, outreach, on-call and after-hours arrangements, including weekends and public holidays where required.

How to apply

Apply through SEEK with your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and interest in the role.
