What they need

YOMI – Frozen Yoghurt & Açaí Bar

Store Manager – Christchurch
Full-Time | Competitive Salary | Reports to the National Operations Manager

Yomi is growing, and we're looking for a leader ready to take full ownership of our day-to-day operations. This isn't just a "run the shift" role—it's a run the business role.

If you're a natural leader who loves hospitality, thrives on responsibility, and takes real pride in building a great team and slick systems, we want to hear from you. You'll be the person who makes sure every customer leaves with a smile — and the business behind it runs like clockwork.

About Yomi
Yomi is a premium self-serve frozen yoghurt and açaí bar, founded in the heart of Mount Maunganui. We offer classic and plant-based flavours alongside a vibrant toppings bar featuring fresh fruit and locally sourced treats.

Our Mission:
To be New Zealand's go-to destination for a premium experience that blends freshness, indulgence, and freedom of choice.

Our Values

  • Quality Without Compromise — premium ingredients, polished service
  • Freedom of Choice — everyone's different; we empower individuality
  • Feel Good Vibes — energy and atmosphere matter
  • Balanced Living — mindful indulgence
  • Community Connection — proudly local

The Opportunity

As Store Manager, you'll take full ownership of the daily operation, performance, and culture of the store. You'll lead the team, set the standard for customer experience, and keep the business running smoothly — not by managing problems as they come up, but by building systems so they don't happen in the first place.

You'll Have Real Authority

You're trusted to make the calls that keep the store moving, including:

  • Adjusting staffing levels during shifts
  • Handling refunds and customer complaints within store policy
  • Managing staff performance and disciplinary conversations
  • Coordinating day-to-day supplier communication
  • Adapting workflows to manage demand

The National Operations Manager stays close on the bigger decisions — pay changes, hiring Team Leaders, pricing, new suppliers, and major purchases — so you're never carrying those alone.

What You'll Be Doing

Leading the Team

  • Lead, coach, and develop Team Leaders and Team Members
  • Build a positive, accountable culture aligned with Yomi's values
  • Own hiring, onboarding, training, and performance reviews
  • Address performance issues professionally and promptly
  • Champion store standards, including uniforms and presentation
  • Be the go to escalation point for staff and customer issues

Setting the Standard

  • Make sure every staff member is trained and confident in their role
  • Keep procedures consistent across the team
  • Get new staff up to standard within their probation period
  • Develop Team Leaders to run shifts independently

Running a Tight Store

  • Oversee daily operations and service flow
  • Keep the store spotless and presentation perfect, always
  • Maintain a fully stocked toppings bar and well-running machines
  • Monitor product quality and consistency
  • Uphold opening and closing standards
  • Continuously improve workflows and efficiency

Rostering & Labour

  • Build and manage the weekly roster
  • Balance labour cost against demand
  • Ensure strong coverage during peak periods
  • Manage staff availability and leave
  • Approve timesheets

Inventory & Ordering

  • Manage ordering and supplier relationships
  • Maintain stock levels and minimise waste
  • Track usage and run effective waste-reduction systems
  • Conduct regular stocktakes

Cash Handling & Loss Prevention

  • Own daily cash reconciliation accuracy
  • Investigate and report variances
  • Keep tills and the safe handled securely
  • Ensure discounts and promotions are applied correctly
  • Put strong theft and waste prevention practices into action

Financial Performance

  • Monitor daily sales and performance trends
  • Control labour and cost of goods
  • Spot opportunities for improvement
  • Drive initiatives that grow revenue and efficiency

Customer Experience

  • Ensure every guest gets a premium experience
  • Handle complaints with professionalism and care
  • Build genuine relationships with regular customers
  • Keep the store atmosphere positive and welcoming

Facilities & Equipment

  • Report and coordinate repairs and maintenance
  • Liaise with contractors
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules

Compliance

You'll ensure the store operates in line with:

  • Food Control Plan requirements
  • Health & Safety obligations
  • Incident reporting and corrective actions
  • Contractor and visitor safety

Local Business & Community

You'll build genuine relationships with local businesses and the Christchurch community — spotting partnership opportunities, coordinating cross-promotions or events, and representing Yomi as an engaged, valued local brand.

Responsibilities include identifying partnership opportunities, coordinating cross-promotions or events, and representing Yomi professionally within the local business network.

Success means Yomi is seen as an engaged, valued local brand with partnerships that drive mutual benefit and growth.

Keeping the National Operations Manager in the Loop

A short weekly report covering:

  • Sales summary
  • Labour percentage
  • Waste
  • Customer issues
  • Staffing issues
  • Maintenance issues
  • Improvements implemented

Beyond that, the National Operations Manager only gets involved when something needs to be escalated — the rest is yours to run.

About You

You're a natural operator: organised, calm under pressure, and great with people. You probably:

  • Have 2+ years' hospitality, retail, or commercial leadership experience
  • Are confident managing staff and having the tough conversations
  • Love creating structure and improving systems
  • Are proactive and take genuine ownership
  • Care deeply about the customer experience
  • Can work independently and make sound calls under pressure

Bonus points if you:

  • Hold a food safety certification

  • Have opened or run a store/venue before

  • Understand labour and cost control

What Success Looks Like

  • The store runs smoothly without National Operations Manager involvement
  • Staff know what's expected of them and perform consistently
  • Customers receive a consistently premium experience
  • Waste and costs are kept firmly under control
  • Problems are prevented, not just reacted to
