About the Role

Are you a natural leader with a passion for pets and people? We’re looking for an experienced Store Manager to take charge of our award-winning Superstore in Derby. You’ll oversee daily operations, lead a fantastic team, and deliver the exceptional customer experience our shoppers expect. This is a hands-on role that combines retail management, team leadership, and a love for animals. The role includes weekdays between 8am - 5.30pm and a weekend rota for Saturdays (8am-5.30pm) and Sundays (10am-2pm)

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead daily store operations – open and close the store, maintain a clean, welcoming environment, and ensure every customer enjoys a great experience.
  • Manage inventory – monitor stock levels, order merchandise, and take advantage of supplier and wholesaler offers.
  • Boost sales and performance – set sales targets, create promotions, and motivate your team to achieve them.
  • Control budgets and costs – manage store spending and identify opportunities for savings.
  • Ensure compliance – uphold company policies, health and safety standards, and legal requirements (including fire safety checks).
  • Resolve customer issues – address queries and complaints with professionalism and care.
  • Maintain a standout store – ensure shelves are stocked, displays are engaging, and the store looks its best every day.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and support staff in collaboration with HR.
  • Build and manage rotas, including weekend and cleaning schedules.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching for development.
  • Foster a positive, motivated, and team-focused work environment.

Financials & Reporting

  • Analyse sales data and forecast future performance.
  • Prepare and share reports with senior management.
  • Implement measures to prevent loss and improve profitability.

Supplier & Promotions

  • Build strong supplier relationships and negotiate great deals.
  • Ensure all products are priced accurately and maintain healthy margins.
  • Plan and deliver engaging in-store promotions and events.
  • Attend meetings and represent your store within the wider business.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in retail management (pet or supermarket experience is a plus).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Confidence in analysing data, managing budgets, and driving sales.
  • A passion for pets and exceptional customer service.
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Get

  • Competitive salary and performance-related bonuses.
  • Staff discount on a wide range of pet products.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career progression.
  • A supportive, friendly environment where your ideas are valued.

If you think you are the right fit for the job, please send your CV and cover letter detailing your experience to [email protected]. Unfortunately we are unable to reply to unsuccessful candidates and candidates can expect to hear if they are selected for interview within 2 weeks of application.
