Storeman

Job Summary:

We are seeking an organized, proactive, and detail-oriented Storeman to manage stores and parts control for our Alrode workshop. Working closely alongside the Fleet Controller, workshop mechanics, and procurement team, you will ensure the right parts, consumables, tools, and rigging are available when needed.

Key responsibilities:

1. Receiving and issuing: Inspect and receive all incoming parts, consumables, and tools against purchase orders, reporting discrepancies immediately. Issue parts strictly against approved job cards/requisitions, recording the asset fleet number and mechanic for every item, and hand over daily delivery notes and GRV:

2. Stock control: Maintain an accurate Excel stock register tracking bin locations, stock in/out, and quantities on hand. Conduct weekly spot counts, monthly stocktakes, and monitor minimum stock levels for fast-moving items (filters, oils, grease, brake parts, tyres, wire rope consumables)

3. Support to the Fleet Controller: Check parts availability for scheduled services in advance, source and collect urgent parts for breakdowns (including supplier runs), and manage returns, exchanges, and warranty items.

4. Tools, rigging and fuel: Maintain the workshop tool register, manage bulk fuel and lubricant registers, properly store rigging equipment, and coordinate quarterly colour-coding rigging equipment inspections with the Asset Coordinator.

5. Reporting and compliance: Submit weekly stores reports to the Operations Manager, strictly follow procurement approval rules, and ensure the safe storage and disposal of waste oil and hazardous materials.

Key Requirements:

1. At least 2 years’ experience as a storeman or stores controller, ideally in a workshop, plant hire, crane hire, transport, or mining environment.

2. Good knowledge of truck, crane, or heavy-vehicle parts and consumables is a strong advantage.

3. Computer literate, with working knowledge of MS Excel (intermediate to advanced preferred) for stock registers and reports.

4. Accurate, honest, organised, with strong attention to detail and proactive, with a sense of urgency in a busy, breakdown-driven workshop.

5. Team player who can work well with the Fleet Controller, mechanics and management.

6. Matric (Grade 12); a stores, logistics, or supply chain certificate is an advantage.

7. Valid driver’s licence (essential) for parts collections and supplier runs.
